DRAMA

The students in Drama this week showcased the short videos they created, following the trend "What I Mean When I Say." It was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about digital editing, processing and how to create videos. More so it was an excellent opportunity for the students to showcase where they came from, home countries, how they view Moscow and how they view themselves. It was a great project and the students did a great job.

MUSIC

In Secondary, Year 7 have been learning about Irish Jig and Reel Folk music. The students explored instruments in Irish Folk music and other features. They practiced with performing “Cooley’s Reel” on the keyboards.

Year 8 explored “All That Jazz” from “Chicago” Introduction Riff. The students learned to perform the opening introduction Riff on keyboards.

Year 9 started with new Unit “What make a good song”. Pupils explored Hook/Riffs, Structure, Melody and Lyrics through listening and analysis and performing parts of some popular songs.

SCIENCE

Welcome back to everyone to our new exciting term three. It is going to be our busiest and most important term leading to our summer holidays. The year 12 and 13 excelled in their recent mock exam and are now in their final unit Practical Skills 1 and Practical Skills 2. They are working very well and will achieve good marks if they continue to strive in this manner. The year 11 also produced pleasing results in their mock exams and there was a general improvement in their results.

The KS3 also hit the ground running and are eager to learn more science. The year 7 are finishing of their chemistry unit and learning more about acids and bases. A few demonstrations were done and students noted colour changes in neutralisation reaction. We also did a few reactions involving acids and metals. The year 9 have started an important section in Physics dealing with Motion. They are also getting familiar.

FRENCH

In Year 7 , we started a new subject : le comparatif. We learnt how to compare differents elements according to their size or their weight, per example : "he is taller than him : il est plus grand que lui" or "il est moins beau que lui". We also used our previous subject about "masculin/feminin" because we had to write properly the adjective according to the subject.
In Year 8, we finished our topic about "singulier/pluriel" and "masculin/feminin" It was an intense week but they did it and now they are finally ready for their test. Indeed, they now know how to write and say properly an adjective if the subject is masculine or feminine and even how to change if the subject is in singular or in plural.
In Year 9, students were getting ready for their French test. We did revisions about the previous test "masculin/feminin' , 'singular/plurial' and the comparative. It was an intense week in Year 9 because we were focused on grammar. Well done Year 9 and good luck for your test.

In Year 10, we finished our subject about a healthy life, Now, students know how to speak about diceases and how to be healthy and have a healthy life. They are able to write an email to their doctor and what to say if they are sick in France. Finally, they did a poster encouraging people to have a healthy life.

GEOGRAPHY

Year 7

Year 7 students have been learning about the impacts of tourism. In this week students have had a discussion on how tourism link to advancement in technology resulted to changing in lifestyles and diverse factors that have both positive and negative impacts to people and environment.

Year 8

This week year 8 students have done their presentation about the fossil fuel. Most of them choose to do a presentation in pairs and some of them did their presentation in a group of more than three members. In addition students have started covering the positive and negative impacts of energy use by looking on the impact of energy use in a political angle. Students demonstrated their understanding of this subtopics by discussing how countries around the world are fighting because of energy resources.

Year 9

This week year 9 have been learning on the comparative impacts of earthquake between LEDCs and MEDCs countries. To develop their understanding students compare and contrast the impact of earthquake between Haiti earthquake of 2015 and Japan earthquake of 2011. In this lesson students have discovered that the impact of earthquake in MEDCs are much less as compared with the impact of earthquake in LEDCs.

Year 10

Year 10 have started learning the new subtopic under Human population which is Human Migration. With the aid of video students managed to define migration and come up with the list and examples of many types of migration identified in the video.


HISTORY

Year 7

Year 7 explored the Great British Exhibition . With the aid of visuals such as different pictures during the exhibition students have learned about what, when and why British had that exhibition. In addition students developed their understanding about British being super power during the industrial revolution.

Year 8

This week year 8 students enjoyed a good weather by having one of their History lesson outside the classroom. They have been learning about the personal characteristics of King Louis XVI and other revolutionary leaders. Furthermore students have had a discussion on the general outcomes of the French revolution.

ENGLISH

As we approach closer to the end of the academic year all students are demonstrating tremendous amounts of hard-work and enthusiasm in English. This week year 9 have been studying World War 1 poetry: they have done some research into the background of famous British WW1 poets and looked closely at the famous dulce et decorum est. Year 10 have just begun their next English literature study: Macbeth. To begin with students did a detective style case study where they considered the different characters' motivations to kill Duncan as a segue into the text. From next week they will look at the historical and social context which shaped Shakespeare's writing of this Scottish tragedy. Year 11 have been self-studying and given their unseen assessments to work on independently. Year 12 have been revising the main characters in the play Othello in preparation for their examination at the end of the month and finally year 13 are compiling some final pieces of evidence for their A-level.

ICT

This week in ICT Year 10 explored Adobe Photoshop and taking pictures to be edited i.e. and will be creating animations at a later stage. Year 8 continued with the topic Social Engineering and explored different types of Cyber Attacks that have been taking place and the motives behind the attacker and what companies can do to prevent these attacks. Year 7 continued the unit vector graphics and this week we were exploring creating and manipulating shapes, align, group and ungrouping shapes and combining shapes and paths using the union function.

Year 9 had a lot of fun we started JavaScript and used a new software called CodeCombat which they really enjoyed.

RUSSIAN


On Thursday Year 9 students have finished the difficult topic "The verbal adverb" and did a test. The students have been working hard and have received high grades. Keep it up, Year 9!
