GEOGRAPHY


Year 7

It has been great to see the year 7 students in school this week. The year group has started a new topic, which is Tourism. We have been focusing on the key words found in this topic and then students have had an opportunity to discuss about the reason for the increase of tourist in the world but also students have had an opportunity to talk about the impact of Covid19 in the tourism industry. Finally, students drew a line graph to indicate the global tourism trends.

Year 8

Year 8 made a huge effort this week by submitting their tourism Leaflet design. This week the year group have spent a time in the classroom learning about the “Changes made by UK in the energy use policy”. The major focus of this subtopic was how UK and other EU countries managed to change their energy use policy from non-renewable energy to more uses of renewable energy, which was seen as environmental friendly sources of energy.

Year 9

Year 9 are still exploring the earthquake and we have been focusing on the causes of the earthquake together with the location of the earthquake in the world. Year group has also learned about types of plate tectonic which oceanic and continental plate are. Finally, students have learned about types of plate tectonic movement, which are transform, convergent and divergent plate movement.

Year 10

This week the year group have learned about Demographic Transition Model (DTM). Firstly, with Demographic Transitional Model students have understand the change in population from high birth rate and death rate to low birth rate ad death rate over time. In addition, students have managed to categories countries into each stages of the DTM, they made a conclusion that most of the Low Income Countries (LICs) are on the first stage of the model, and most of High Income Countries are in the fourth and fifth stage of the model.

HISTORY

Year 7

Year 7 students did an excellent job during this week. Once again, they have been proceeding doing their presentation of the worst job during industrial revolution. Finally, this week they have been learning about “Workhouses” during industrial revolution.

Year 8

The Year 8 are still learning about French Revolution and this week they have watched videos, and studied power point presentations with detailed explanations about King Louis XVI. They have also examined a French flag colors and linked with the 1793 revolution ideas.

MUSIC

In Secondary, Year 7 learned another folk song “Blowing in the Wind”. This song was performed by the American singer Bob Dylon. The students explored the melody line and accompaniment of this song and played it on the keyboards.

Year 8 have been learning to understand and demonstrate what makes an “effective” Jazz improvisation using the notes of the Blues Scale. The students explored different types and styles of Jazz and instruments, timbres and sonorities within Jazz and Blues music.

Year 9 explored the song's performance plan “Three little birds." The students worked hard on the accompaniment to the song. We have combined together the various texture layers we explored: Bass Line Riffs, Hook, Chords, Rhythm, Melodic Line/Vocals.

FRENCH

In Year 7 and in Year 8, we finished the topic about My house. Students had to write a description about their house, writting in French if the house is located in town, in countryside, if it is an apartment or a house etc. It's a good way to practice the writing skills, because they need to build sentences, writing according to the subject and the gender. The more they will try to build sentences the more they will be able to speak.
In Year 9, we finished our topic about My house and we started a new topic : Les comparatifs. We learnt how to compare differents elements according to their size or their weight, per example : "he is taller than him : il est plus grand que lui" or "il est moins beau que lui". We will keep speaking about this topic next week
In Year 10, we were still speaking about a "healthy life" and about the syndromes. We listened to an audio and we had to understand what the syndromes of each character. After that, we learnt how to say : Avoir mal à la/au/aux. We studied wich one we need to use according to the gender. To finish, they had to write an email where they are explaining that they are sick and what syndromes they have.

ENGLISH

This week year 9 have been learning how to plan and write discursive essays. They have been working in pairs using the IT facilities in order do background research on their essay topics. Year 10 have also been improving their analytical writing skills and have been looking through some model essays to get a good idea of what one looks like. Next week these students will begin their coursework submission as part of their iGCSE English Literature course. Year 11 have had a busy week preparing for their exams, revising independently and collating evidence for their grades next month. Finally year 12 and year 13 have continued with their Shakespeare study of Hamelt and Othello.

ICT

This week in ICT Year 10 explored the topic privacy and surveillance. We were discussing the implications of having personal data online, the social and environmental impacts of social media and the positive and negative effects of online content. Year 8 started the topic Social Engineering and explored how human errors pose security risks to data and looking at strategies to implement to minimize the risk of data being compromised through human error. Year 7 started the unit vector graphics and started using the software Inkscape to produce some vector graphics. Moreover Year 13 were looking at some sample past paper essay questions and doing exam preparation.

SCIENCE and MATH

Students are happy because they have a day of next week and they are already looking forward to the summer.

The Year 7 maths class is learning about coordinates and coordinate and graphs. They are using coordinate points to pinpoint where places and people are on a make. It helps with chess notation as well. We have had some fun these two days with using it to draw amazing pictures and also planning routes to walk.

Linear and quadratic graphs is on the forefront of the year 8 class. They are learning the rules that needs to be applied to draw these graphs. They will also work out some calculations to use to draw these as well. Looking at different real-world scenarios they try and represent these using graphs.

Year 10 biology it doing Unit 7 Nutrition in their IGCSE program. They are looking at photosynthesis and aerobic respiration as well as balanced diet. Learning about what is the proper daily intake of certain food group to get the best energy production for the body. They are looking at the digestive system as well using it to understand where the body absorb or excrete certain nutrients and waste products.

Year 11 biology is recapping certain topics for their mock exam that starts next week. We are looking at the wording of different exam question, strategies to tackle these questions as well as analysis questions. We are wishing them luck in this most important time and hope that they will be successful in their achievements

Year 12 biology, is recapping some topics and learning new ones. He is setting himself up for the exams starting next week. We are looking at cells and its structures and the processes happening in them. Good luck Jeff with the forthcoming exams.
