ART
It is always a joy to exhibit the wonderful art work made in school. Y11 came to their art lesson 15 minutes early this week so we could attend the first viewing of a film made Daniil as part of his iGCSE submission. We had some some sweet treats and drinks and arranged the tables in rows in the style of a cinema. The film was a great achievement with the script, editing, set design, and film work all made by Daniil. Not only that, the film was a collaboration, with script review by Michel, and voice overs made by other EIS students. If you have time watch the film, it’s well worth it.
DRAMA
In Drama the students of secondary have been working well, to plan, prepare and execute their Film Projects. They have been building on their teamwork, communication, and planning skills throughout this unit. They are getting more efficient at using the cameras. writing scripts and a few students have even taken on the leadership roles of Director for the films. They have all been working well, doing a great job and most importantly, they have been having a lot of fun while learning new skills.
MATH
Year 9 students continued to learn topic Statistics and have been introduced to various ways of presenting data: they learnt how to draw pie charts, histograms and scatter plots. They have also learnt about the correlation between two data sets and how to use line of best fit to answer different questions. Year 11 students started to learn about functions, how to tell whether given relation is a function or not and how to identify function's domain and range. They have been introduced to composite and inverse functions. Year 12 and 13 students continue to work hard towards their summer exams and some of them have already had their first exam for one out of three compulsory modules this week. Most students said that the exam paper was not easy and realised that they will have to put extra effort into their studies in the following term in order to gain more confidence before summer exams.
PHYSICS
Welcome back to everyone to our new exciting term two. It was fantastic to see that our students settled down so quickly and got into the rhythm of school so easily. The year 7 have started chemistry while the year 9 have begun physics. They will be doing something exciting in a few weeks, we will announce the details of this when once it is finalised. The year 10 will continue their IGCSE section on Energy and I hope to do some advanced work with them soon. It was very pleasing to note that Y11, Y12 and Y13 performed very well in their Physics mock exams and a number of students achieved A’s. I hope that they continue to strive in this manner.
ENGLISH
Students have had a strong first week back to EIS in the English department. Year 9 have continued their analysis of the play Blood Brothers, a tale ofcoming-of-age set in Liverpool, as well as examining poetry related to growing up. Year 10 have been planning a creative writing story they preparing which will help them with their exam next year. Year 12 have begun a new play: Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and as a class we have looked at the American Dream and the dangers of this. Finally Year 13 are working on their exam technique and focusing on the Victorian novel Great Expectations.
RUSSIAN
This week Y11 & 10 were assigned a fairly large project on social media (how we stay safe online) to which they responded with enthusiasm, and proceeded to create very elaborate, descriptive presentations on social media. Most students were able to accomplish this with no issue, although some had to put in a noticeable amount of effort. Being safe on the internet is very important, and can prevent problems. The internet can be a great resource for children and teens, but it is very important to make sure they know the dangers of the web and how we stay safe online.
MUSIC
In Secondary school, we studied a new topic "I have got rhythm" with Year 7. Students like to create rhythmic music on the drums.
