FRENCH
In year 9 , we finally finished our big subject about "masculine and feminine, plural and singular". Students passed their final exam and it was for most of them a success. Well done and Bravo Year 9. After that, we started a new subject: how to say the verb "to know". In French, we use two different verbs: savoir and connaître. We studied the conjugation of each verb and we saw in which situation we should use one verb and when we need to use the other.
In Year 8 and Year 7 we started a new subject: the possessive adjectives. We learnt the different ways to say My/you/his/her/our/their when the noun is masculine, feminine, or in plural. Thanks to our last subject, we know how to recognize the gender of a noun. We did some exercises during the lesson and we will still speak about this subject next week.
In year 10, we finished our topic about Tv and film. We studied a blog from a young student. She explains why and what she likes about TV and Film. We had to write some details. Then we listened to an interview and we had to write the correct answers. We also learnt how to write properly some kinds of verbs from the first group in French. Finally, students had to create their blog and explain what they like or don't like about TV. What a serious and interesting week in Year 10.
GEOGRAPHY
Year 7
It is another week where by year 7 students are still learning about Ecotourism. This week we have discussed about ecotourism in Kenya and students have seen how Kenya is benefiting out of different ecotourism projects that range from environmental, economic and social project that promotes Maasai culture.
Year 8
This year group have been learning about water resources. They have begun this subtopic by looking at the distribution of water around the world. Students were given a task to create a Choropleth world map that indicate the water resources availability. In addition, students have discussed ways to promote water friendly uses at home.
Year 9
Year 9 are still exploring the geographical skills and this week they have demonstrated their understanding by doing several worksheets on the identification of physical and manmade features in the photograph. Furthermore, students have develop their analysis skills by analyzing different environmental problems from different geographical photographs.
Year 10
The year 10 have been learning about Settlement pattern this week. With the aid of different maps and pictures, students demonstrated their understanding on three types of settlement patterns, which are dispersed, linear and nucleated settlement.
HISTORY
Year 7
Year 7 students have discussed about important invention during Industrial Revelation. Students has had an opportunity to use ICT room to prepare the PowerPoint presentation of Industrial Revolution inventions of their choice and did a presentation in the classroom. This task enables students to understand how scientist devote their time and effort to invert different machines that are really helpful in our daily life.
Year 8
This week year 8 students have finished the topic of French Revolution and they had an opportunity to do a revision through some fun online games like Liveworksheet and Blooket. In addition, the year group have started the new topic, which is a First World War whereby they have begun the topic by looking at the main causes of the war.
SCIENCE
Year 10 continued to work on salt preparation and this time used a metal oxide and an acid to prepare hydrated copper sulfate crystals. They followed all the steps carefully and practised techniques such as filtration, evaporation. They managed to stop boiling their solutions at the right time so that to get nice big blue crystals. Well done!
Year 8 studied light and some of its properties. We discussed how shadows are formed and why we are able to see our reflection in a mirror and not in a piece of paper or wood. We also talked about what is meant by a luminous and non-luminous objects.
Year 11 worked very hard this week and finished one of their assessments as well as wrote their third mock exam. Also, in our lesson we talked about reversible reactions, which can go in both directions. The other thing we discussed was corrosion of metals and rusting of iron and what is understood by galvanising of iron. Great week, Year 11, you did a great job!
ENGLISH
This week year 9 have been studying two contemporary poems, related to war and conflict, entitled Remains and Kamikaze. Students have been comparing and contrasting how the two poems explore different themes and have participated in drama activities to bring the poems to life. Year 10 have been reading Shakespeare's Macbeth and focusing on how Shakespeare establishes his protagonist as a tragic hero. The class have also researched life and times in Shakespeare's England in order to further understand and appreciate the play. Year 11, 12 and 13 have been writing unseen assessments and independently studying as the examination period draws to a close.
ICT
This week in ICT Year 7 were creating logos, editing the path nodes and converting objects to paths using Inkscape. Year 8 explored the cybersecurity threats and the risks and the impact it can have on a network. As well as the actions that could be taken to prevent these attacks.
