MATH

On Monday Secondary students celebrated international Pi Day by competing in various activities. Split into houses, each team was fighting to win the main prize - the pie along with other small prizes. Students had to earn virtual pounds in "Who wants to be a mathionaire" game followed by some logical questions, IQ type of questions, putting together geometrical shapes and solving other quizzes. The winner of the pie was the Wolves house earning over1,000,000 pounds and getting all of the IQ questions right, the Eagles demonstrated great achievement in Countdown game, Bears were the only ones who completed all 5 geometrical puzzles and Tigers succeeded in logical types of questions. Well done, guys!

ICT

This week in ICT Year 8 continued with their Hyper-Text-Markup-Language and were looking at the ordered list tags and adding pictures to the website. Year 9 and 7 were exploring Minecraft Education and programming using Notepad and Text Editor. Moreover Year 13 and Year 12 were revising for their exams which are next week.

ENGLISH

This week year 9 students finished their reading of Conan Doyle's 'The Adventures of the Speckled Band' and have started planning their own detective fiction stories. They have considered the different elements of detective fiction such as setting, characters, clues, plot and crime. Year 10 students have been working towards their coursework which will contribute towards their iGCSE English Literature grade next year. They are analysing the one of the main characters from the play 'An Inspector Calls' and focusing on the audience's perception of this character. Year 11, 12 and 13 are in the final stages of revision and preparation for their upcoming and very important mock exams. Students have been working independently and enthusiastically albeit with a few inevitable nerves. I would like to wish all exam students the very best of luck for next week.

RUSSIAN

Year 7 and 8 students continue to improve their skills. They are expanding their vocabulary by reading and discussing various topics such as Daily Routine, My school. Working in small groups of two or three people allows students to practice speaking and listening more effectively: composing dialogues, discussions, story making, quizzes and vocabulary games are tasks that the students find fascinating and rewarding. In addition, working with a teacher face-to-face gives them the opportunity to improve writing and reading skills and fill individual gaps in their knowledge.

Year 10 and 11 students study hard for their exams. They are developing and refining their abilities. A goal that we are continuing to focus upon and expanding on is ensuring they are refining their ability in responding to more complex and detailed tasks.

In Russian year 11 have been busy revising their previous Exam Reading questions and Comparative essays, because Daniil and Maria were getting ready to sit for their MOCK exam next week. I am very impressed with your essays. Keep it up!

ART

FRENCH

In Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 , we started a new topic, the question “Qui est-ce? Who is it ? ” and how to answer the question with “C’est”. We described a picture and we asked the question “ Qui est-ce ? “ After that, the students had to ask each other some questions. Then we studied the “pronoms toniques” , how to say in French “Me, you, him, her, us, them”. After that, we spoke about “Moi aussi , moi non plus : so am I / neither am I”

In Year 10, we still spoke about "My school". This week, it's was harder, however it's a good way to be ready for the exam. They had to understand a text, match the answers and write a presentation about their school. Well done Year 10

GEOGRAPHY

Year 7

Year 7 students have learned about earthquake in Japan and they have managed to understand why Japan is called a “ring of fire”. With the continuation of the last week lesson students have linked their prior knowledge on the precaution to take during, before or after the earthquake with some of the measures taken by Japan to prepare itself with earthquakes as a natural hazard. Students have also learned about the primary and secondary effects of earthquakes.

Year 8

Year 8 students have learned about tourism growth and factors that contributed to tourism growth from the year 1950’s to 2021. Students have developed skills in reading and interpreting geographical graphs. This skill helped them to comment on the trends of numbers of tourist in the world as well as making the comparison between the countries that receives many tourist and the countries that receives fewer number of tourist in a given time.

Year 9

This week year 9 students have learned about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as proposed by UN in 2015. In this lesson students develop their understanding on the list of all 17 goals and how countries can work together to make sure that these SDGs are attained when it reach the year 2025 and 2030.=

Year 10

This week year 10 students have learned about River and they have focused on the physical features of the river found in all three stages of the river which are upper stage, middle stage and lower stage. With the aid of YouTube video and pictures students have learned about the processes that influence Hydrological Water Cycle (HWC) and also they have learned about the formation of Oxbow lake, River meander as well as river Delta which are some examples of the physical features found in a river.

Year 11

Year 11 students are in the preparation of the Mock exam and in this week the students have had an opportunity to familiarize with the format of the IGCSE Geography final exam. General format of Geography paper one and paper two were shown to students, and some key instructions found in the examination were clearly explained to them. In addition this week students have learned about overpopulation, under population and optimum population. In this lesson, students have discussed about the effects of overpopulation and what are the measures that can be taken to prevent the negative impact of overpopulation in a country or city.

HISTORY

Year 7

Year & students have finished to learn about Monks and Nuns and in this lesson students have developed note taking skills by simply taking notes of the key important information in the power point slides about the hard life of Monks and Nuns during Middle Ages. In addition year 7 students have learned about the murder of Thomas Becket and why his death shocked the middle Ages.

Year 8

Year 8 have learned about Mahatma Gandhi as an Indian leader who influenced the world by being positive, very willing to forgive and at the same time preached love to everyone in the world. Furthermore students have explored that one person can make a lifetime changes in the society. Students had an opportunity to read an article about Mahatma Gandhi and answers the comprehension questions.

PSHE

Year 7.

In this week year 7 students have learned about the topic which is so called “Be Mindful”. In this lesson students get to know how to maintain awareness of their thoughts, feelings, experience and surrounding environment when making decision or speaking to their friends or adults. Furthermore this lesson enables students to understand meaning of paying attention to their feeling and experiences.

MUSIC

In Secondary, Year 7 have been learning about Rondo Form. The students learned to understand the importance of musical contrast between sections in Rondo form demonstrating it through performance, composition and improvisation. The students have listened and identified Binary, Ternary and Rondo forms from different times and places.

Year 8 learned about The Irish Jig and Reel Dance Music and The Disco Music. The students explored the history of these types of music, musical instruments and the musical features of an Irish Jig. The students performed “Cooley’s Reel” on the keyboards.

Year 9 talked about the structure of Samba music. The students explored Introduction, Groove Section and Melody Parts of Samba. We have performed with instruments that we use in class.
