YEAR 3

It has been a challenging week in Year 3. We began the week in class before moving onto online learning half way through. It has been pleasing to see how adaptable the children have been to moving online but still working as hard as before.

In English we watched the Disney version of The Jungle Book. As our stories were written based on the opening chapters of the original Kipling stories, we made some comparisons of the film and our own stories, looking at some of the similarities or differences between the two, using Venn Diagrams. We have also created film reviews about the film itself where the class have shared their likes and dislikes, created a short summary and even thought about how the film could have been made better.

In Maths we have worked on a times table activity in preparation for multiplication task which encouraged us to partition larger numbers before being able to multiply larger numbers.

In Topic we have looked at the host country of this year’s Olympic Games, created questions about what we wanted to find out about Japan and created posters following our interests or curiosities about Japanese life.

Finally in Science we have created a glossary of key words and ideas from our current Science unit about magnets and forces. These are ideas and vocabulary we can take forward for the last weeks of the unit.

YEAR 4

During this week, we again discovered how unpredictable the world is at the moment. While some of us attended lessons at school, others stayed at home and joined online lessons.

Due to a disrupted week, some of us have completed our Arithmetic and Problem-solving Tests, and Reading Tests and others are still to do them.

One of our favourite Abacus Maths challenges is the ‘Driving Test’, which consists of twelve questions at twelve stops during a car trip. Some of the questions are quite easy, while others are a little more challenging. This really keeps us on our toes!

Because we were unable to do PE at the local sports hall, Mr Oleg taught us how to play ‘pioneerball’, a game very similar to volleyball. Pioneerball originated in the U.S.S.R. in the 1930s. Pioneerball teams have between three to eight players. It was great fun playing outside in the sunshine!

YEAR 5

The week started on a slow note on Tuesday after the Public Holiday and our Covid situation. Luckily most of us were tested negative, and those who has positive results were healthy enough to join all our lessons online. Well done for staying so positive guys!
Although we are finished with our work for the year, we are doing valuable revision to make sure that all of us are ready for Year 6. During our English lessons we revised Plurals, the 3 types of Adverbs, Apostrophes, and Direct & Indirect Speech. I was happy to find that the children know how to convert between Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. We did a few tricky word problems where we had to find a certain Percentage from a fraction. We will need to focus on this a little more during next week.
The Olympics took center stage during our Topic lessons, and during Science we continued exploring space by learning more about Black Holes.
I am very happy to report that my Year 5's do possess the knowledge they need to make a huge success of Year 6. They are happy and well adapted, and I am so proud of them!
