YEAR 3

While we have been celebrating International Day this week, we have also been busy with our regular timetable. In Maths, we have been analyzing and creating bar charts, measuring using balance scale in order to collect data for further charts and rounding numbers three and four digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

In English, we have continued our regular phonics focus. Additionally, we have begun to analyze the main characters of the “Mowgli’s Brothers” text. In this we have developed different adjectives to describe these characters, making sure that we have evidence from the text to support our ideas.

In Science, we have been looking at parts of flowering plants and their life cycles. We have learned about the key stages of the life cycle of a plant and what each part means to the plant.

Our Topic focus has been all about Brazil, our chosen country for International Day. In doing this we have researched some facts about Brazil, made some Brazilian drinks (as well as made a lot of mess in the classroom) and sketched the different man-made landmarks that the country is famous for.

YEAR 4

It’s been another short, busy week! While researching Australia, we have discovered that this country is quite special! Australia is situated on the world’s smallest continent and has about 120 species of marsupials, including kangaroos, koalas, and wombats. During our Music lesson, we learnt to sing ‘Waltzing Matilda’, Australia's best-known bush ballad. Some people describe as it as the country's ‘unofficial national anthem’. The song is about a ‘swagman’ – a worker who waltzes as he travels on foot, makes tea in a ‘billy’ (a lidded pot) and sleeps in his ‘swag’ – sleeping gear. It’s a sad song because the swagman drowns himself in a ‘billabong’ to avoid being arrested.

In Maths, we learnt the 11 and 12 times tables and how to use multiplication and division facts linked to them. We also used a written method to multiply 3-digit numbers, including amounts of money, such as £3.65. It sounds difficult, but it’s not!

In Topic lessons, we started investigating the history of the Olympic Games. We discovered that the Olympic Rings have symbolic meaning! In Science, we revised electricity and circuits because there is so much more to learn.

During our Art lesson, we painted beautiful compositions of kangaroos from Australia!

YEAR 5

This is a busy time of the year, and as always the Year 5's had a lot on our plates.
We chose Japan as our country for International week. We embraced this topic with enthusiasm! Wednesday and Thursday were dominated by decorating our classroom in everything Japanese. Each of the students displayed great talent whilst enthusiastically decorating the class:Katya shone as an artist by drawing beautiful animé characters. Max, Henry and Polina engaged in origami and produced many interesting designs. Adar and Misha each decorated a display board with great skill and flair. And last but not least, Mark and Vanya colored Katya's animé characters with skill matched only by real Japanese artists. We loved making our own sushi, and then gulped it down using chop stucks - a skill new to some of us.This week was full and exciting, and we can sit back and look back on our activities with great satisfaction - we did an amazing job!
