YEAR 3

In English this week we have continued our strong phonics focus as well as applying our knowledge of adjectives in order to creatively rewrite some popular English phrases. In Maths we have been working on understanding of place value in increasingly larger digits and ordering 3- and 4-digit numbers accurately. We have also been looking at different subtraction strategies including when to use counting up and counting back.

In Science we have been focusing on writing our scientific report of our investigation and identifying how different forces such as gravity, push force and friction act upon moving objects. Finally, in Topic we have been looking at how we can modify PowerPoint presentations using image options, colour and font.

YEAR 4

It has been another great week of learning for Year 4.

In English we have continued our class read ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ focusing on the reading skills of inference and justifying with evidence from the text. The grammar focus this week has been identifying and using possessive apostrophe’s accurately.

In Math, we have been revising long methods that can be used to carry out the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of large numbers. We have also reinforced our understanding of time from week 3.

In Topic we have carried on exploring our new unit: ‘Entertainment and Leisure’. This week we have explored how technology has evolved over the 20th and 21st century. The children designed their own phone app for the school.

In Science we carried on our new unit about ‘Sound’. This week we have explored how sound travels, labelled the different parts of the ear, and learnt what function each part plays in enabling sound to travel so we can hear.

YEAR 5

The hard-work mixed with fun and excitement has continued this week for Year 5. We have been completing a shorter unit of work in English based on museums culminating in a small group task where the children will plan their own Museum of Fun. They have already spent some time reading about some of the world’s most famous museums such as the Natural History Museum in London and are now ready to put their own ideas into action.

We have enjoyed working with fractions this week and doing lots of things with them such as placing them in size order and putting them into sequences as well as converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Overall, everyone has worked well on this.

Science once again became a star subject where the children worked in pairs to observe the melting process of three different solid objects. They happily recorded their results in a table and logged some before and after observations before adding matching diagrams to their work.

I am still really impressed by the consistency of everyone’s reading in class and encourage
them to keep up this invaluable and rewarding habit both at school and at home.

YEAR 6

We have been doing very well in Year 6 this week! Mr. Marsh has been giving us a lot of challenging work, hard Maths, and we have begun work on our WWII Topic project. We have also been very busy making sure that we are finished all of our homework and classwork from every subject, so that we can go on our field trip next week. Mr. Marsh says if we are not done we are not allowed to go. We have been working hard as well in our music lessons practicing our scripts and beginning to learn our parts for the upcoming musical. It has been a challenging week but a great week for us in Year 6.

ART

We had a great, interesting and useful painting lessons with the different year groups (Year 3-6) this week — we learnt to draw the tulips in different positions and how to place the composition of our flowers on a piece of paper.

Believe it or not, a tulip requires a cold winter season to thrive, so it does not grow in tropical climates. Tulips grow in a wide variety of bright colors including yellow, red, purple, orange, pink or a combination of colors such as red and yellow. Children drew fantastic, colourful bouquets of flowers, so well done everyone!

PE

Students in this week worked with Tennis balls. They worked on developing of long-range throws and accuracy. Children showed great ability in new game. During game they find a way to get around the opponent and successful earns points. Also, children continue work on tactics of game.

MUSIC

Year 3 and 4 were busy with rehearsals. The students have been learning their lines and performed them confidently and expressively. Year 5 and 6 have been learning a new song for the musical ‘He will be a hero’. The students worked on the harmony and intonation of the song.
