YEAR 3

In class this week we have been continuing our phonics and punctuation focus in English. We have been embedding our knowledge of ‘dge’, ‘wr’, sounds and consonant diagraphs, and applying different rules of inverted commas. In Maths, we have been looking at fractions. We have covered identifying simple fractions, learning different rules around equivalent fractions and placing fractions on number lines. In PSHE, we have looked at the difference between responsible and irresponsible behaviour, and the students have discussed those times when caring behaviours can sometimes be a little irresponsible. In Topic we have begun to plan a biography on the life of Alexander Graham Bell and Science we have continued our unit on light and shadows.

The photos show Tikhon showing responsible and helpful behaviour, Patryk and Zohaib working hard on their sketches showing locations of shadows and Reilans, Laiba and Stella enjoying the snow

YEAR 4

Week 3 has been great for year 4. The sports hall has now reopened for the children’s PE lessons.

In English we have continued reading our e-book, ‘Incredible Sports’. We have been learning about the features of different text types and the difference between fact and opinion. The children also generated questions for a role play scenario between an interviewer and interviewee. The grammar focus has been on replacing nouns with ‘subject’ and ‘object’ pronouns.

In Math, we have been learning to identify different 2D shapes based on their properties. The children can now identify parallel and perpendicular lines and acute and obtuse angles within these 2D shapes. We also practiced measuring and drawing angles using a protractor.

In Topic we have been continuing to learn about ‘Royal Families’ and ‘Monarchies’. This week the children used the school laptops to research and create a fact file about a Monarch of their choice. The Monarch could be from any country and dead or alive.

YEAR 5

Year 5 have largely had a busy and focused week working hard in all our subjects as well as enjoying getting back into the swing of having PE at the sports hall. In English we have started to read ‘Oranges in No Man’s Land’ on Activelearn, which is set in Beirut. Whilst this is a fictional story it is based on fact and the children have been looking at the location of the Lebanon in relation to other neighbouring countries in the Mediterranean and tracing this on a map. We have also been empathising with the main character in the story, Ayeesha, who is ten years old, through hot-seating. In Maths, we have been continuing to work on our mental maths skills for multiplication and looked at the properties of numbers to learn about square numbers. This has also been good practice for developing our times table skills. In Science we have been investigating Dissolving. The children have worked successfully in small groups to prepare their own experiments using different temperatures of water to dissolve the same solid, recording the temperatures and the time taken to dissolve the solid each time. We have also welcomed another new member to our class this week called Fatima. This is her first time in an English speaking school and she is also new to Moscow. I am confident however that everyone in Year 5 will help her to settle in.

YEAR 6

We have been working hard this week in Year 6! It has been great to be back to the Sports Hall for PE! We have been trying very hard to create Personification Poems in English and learning how to do research projects in Topic. The weather has been great, and we have made our own sliding hill in the playground! In Art and Music, we have been having a lot of fun working on paintings and singing. Even though it has been a busy week we are working hard and Mr. Marsh is happy with all of the effort we have put in!

ART

In year 5 we started to draw Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Students sketched it with a pencil first, and then painted it with gouache paints.

Who is Alexander G. Bell? Year 3 learnt about an old phone and who invented it. Then they made a sketch of a vintage telephone and painted it.

Year 6 learnt how to draw a great looking Giraffe this week. First children made black and white sketch with pencil, and then painted it with Gouache and acrylic paints.

MUSIC

Year 3 and Year 4 have composed “Storm” music. They have explored how famous composers expressed the storm through music. Pupils have heard “Storm” from Beethoven’s Symphony №6 and “Ride the Storm” by Barrie Gledden.

Year 5 have played in the ensemble the melody “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” from Richard Strauss. Pupils used keyboards, drums and their own voices to perform

FRENCH

In Primary, we started a new topic : My family. We first listened to a song about the family and we described the members of the family. Each student had to do his genealogical tree. They had to write the name in French (ex : ma soeur) under each person. To make our trees beautiful, the students brought pictures of the family, they had to cut and stick on the good place. Moreover, some of them presented their tree and named the family member. Good job Primary !
