YEAR 3

Once upon a time, in a land far away, students in Year 3 embarked on a challenging academic journey; learning the principles of ‘traditional stories’. With the help of the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, students used picture prompts to help recall the main events of this tale, as well create character description paragraphs. Later, these paragraphs were rewritten to create ‘wanted’ posters. Students in Year 3 are working hard to improve their sentence writing skills with the use of adjectives, adverbs, and conjunctions. A ‘magical’ process indeed, to witness student writing skills blooming and put to good use. Well done Year 3!

YEAR 4

Year 4 has worked hard this week. It has been great to welcome Muyang back into the class.

In English, we started our new story fiction unit based around the novel ‘The Iron Man’. This week we have been using evidence from the book to make inferences about character feelings at different parts of the novel. In grammar this week, we have learnt how to punctuate and use direct speech accurately in our writing.

In Math, we studied how to recognise and write Roman numerals to 100. We also learnt how to find the perimeter and area of rectilinear 2D shapes. We also learnt to recognise different triangles and quadrilaterals based on their shape properties.

In Topic this week, we learnt about alternative bodies of water to rivers. We learnt how to distinguish between them by studying their physical characteristics

In Science, this week we explored the negative environmental impact climate and humans can have on animals and discussed the different ways we can solve the problems.

YEAR 5

Year 5 have worked hard both in class and online during this short but intense week. We have enjoyed working in groups together in English to further improve our reading and comprehension skills. We have worked very hard and independently in Maths to draw grids accurately with two quadrants, with a clear x and y axes and even moving into negative numbers. Lessons have been focused and fun as we learn about how to show the translation and reflection of quadrilaterals which we have plotted in the first quadrant. I have been delighted with the progress that most children have shown over a couple of lessons and we should get even more practice at doing this on Friday.

In Science we are coming to the end of our current Unit of work on Life Cycles and the children have illustrated and labelled the human life cycle with care and detail. We are beginning a new unit of work in Topic this week on Mountains which will link nicely with our ‘Ultimate Explorers’ in English. All in all, there has been some very good learning this week.

YEAR 6

We have had the most amazing week here in Year 6! Mr. Marsh had signed up our class to take part in the World Maths Day on May 5th. We used any extra time we had in class and at home to practice for the competition. We worked really hard and Mr. Marsh told us that as a class we spent 100 hours practicing in the last 2 weeks for our competition, and we were really successful. We all tried our best and all of our effort really paid off and, it is almost hard to believe, but we came in 1st place in Russia, and even more incredible our Year 6 class got 4th place in the whole world! We are all really proud of what we achieved and Mr. Marsh has not stopped telling us how proud and impressed he is with all of our work; he keeps telling us that he always knew we were great and now we know it too! It has been an amazing week and we are very happy with our result in the World Maths Day!

MUSIC

Such a wonderful first week we had at school in music lessons. We were rehearsing a dance to the song “Sherwood Forest". Students love performing and always try their best in the music class. Singing in three groups teaches students to listen to each other and work as a team. Students learned about positions on stage and how they can speak to be heard by the audience.

FRENCH

In Year 3, we learnt how to say "I like" and "I don't like". We learnt the different way to say I love, I like, I don't like, I hate and how to write them properly. Each kid had to say what they like and what they don't like. To finish, we learnt a song about what I like. Here is the link if you want to practice at home : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nuo6ORn_Wdw

In Year 4, we started a new topic : transports. We saw the different type of transport : une voiture, un bus, un train, un avion, etc. We learnt how to pronounce the words and how to write them properly. We also learnt how to use the prepositon "en" and "à" with the verb Aller. Now we know that we need to use the preposition "en" when we are inside a transport, per example : "je vais en voiture", and we should use the preposition "à" for the others and when we are outside, like "je vais à pied".
In Year 5 and in Year 6, we started a new topic : clothing. We cut differents clothes and we glued them on a paper mannequin. We first did that with woman clothes, then we did the same with man clothes. it's was a very good way to help them remember the vocabulary. After that, we wrote the translation next to each word.

ART

Year 3 learned how to paint beautiful rainbow toucans this week. The children created their own jungle rainforest themed canvas.

Have you ever looked up into the sky and seen a beautiful sunset with some birds? With year 4 this week we were painting this sky. Children learnt how to paint a sunset with palm trees using gouache paints, learned how the elements of art make the artwork look great.

Year 5 painted their paper Mache hot air balloon from last week. Students Explored 3-D materials and developed skills in 3-D media.

Year 6 started to paint their plastic model tank (plane) after they put all the pieces and glued it together.
