This week students in year Three enjoyed an excursion to the Apothecary Gardens, in Moscow center. To help mark the end of their Plant Unit in Science, and Rainforest focus in Topic, students enjoyed looking at hundreds of plants and flowers, both inside the atrium and outside on the grounds. From a 340 year old tree planted by Peter the Great, to carnivorous plants, students were thrilled to see such a variety of greenery available at this wonderful venue.

YEAR 4

Year 4 enjoyed a great trip to Moscow Zoo on Tuesday morning. This week we started some new units in Topic and Science.

The children had to compose their own story based on their own encounter with an extraordinary creature using structural and language features associated with this genre of writing.

In Maths, we studied mental addition and subtraction. We learnt different strategies for adding and subtracting 2-, 3- and 4-digit numbers mentally including partitioning into place value and counting on. We applied these new methods to help us solve scaling problems.

The children had to order the various factors based on which ones they thought were the most important and read and discussed a story about the struggles of a boy living in a virtual world and the factors around him affecting his personal wellbeing.

YEAR 5

There have been changes to our timetable this week but this hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm and hard-working focus of the children in Year 5. We completed our online English and Maths assessments on Monday morning and I look forward to reading those results. The children have also been working hard on their Maths which again, I have enjoyed marking and proves that they have been working really hard up to this point.

We are continuing to read, enjoy and ponder the themes in Charlotte’s Web, our class reader. In PSHE this week we have been testing out different brands of soap as part of our current unit of work on looking after ourselves.

Finally, we have really enjoyed the last lesson every day this week which has given us the chance to show off our acting and musical talents, with everyone taking part having a role to play, no matter how big or small, in the bigger picture.

YEAR 6

We have had a very busy week in Year 6. We have been working extremely hard on our musical rehearsals, to prepare for the show next week! We are very nervous but Mr. Marsh has confidence that we will be great. We have also been busy getting ready for our final projects of the year in Science and Topic. We had a great time in Art drawing various sports and looking at different and unusual sports around the world. It has been quite a busy week but we have done very well.

FRENCH

In Year 4, we spoke about Mother’s Day in France. This celebration takes place usually the last Sunday of May. For this occasion, each student created a card for his mother. We learnt how to say “happy Mother’s Day” in French and how to say “I love you’. It was a lovely lesson and everyone did the best for their mother.

In Year 5, we spoke about a new subject. Thanks to their hard work and their great behaviour, students asked to study the subject about Space. We watched a interesting video about Space, here is the link if you want to watch it again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shQJd3oGYn8

It was a really serious choice. Well done and Bravo!

In Year 6, We had a test about clothing. Of course it’s hard to learn a third language but they are able to do it. During the second lesson of the week, we started a new topic, about My school. Finally, few kids told their poems. This week, Year 6 showed real ability. Let’s keep working!

ART

With Year 4 this week we spoke about the history of the Olympic games, so children can understand the meaning behind the Olympic rings. Then we made our own Olympic Rings. Nothing says Olympics like the iconic rings. Children used a picture of the Olympic rings as an example while they were creating. That way they knew in which order to place each of the colored rings.

Year 5 were finishing their drawing of a Japanese mountain landscape scene in a famous ukiyo-e- Japanese art style from the last week.

MUSIC

Such a wonderful week we had at school in music lessons. Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 rehearsed the Musical together. We rehearsed with lines and songs. The students worked hard on the dances for the musical. It was a great job. We are all excited about the upcoming week, as the upcoming performance is approaches.
