YEAR 3

In English this week, we have continued our strong phonics focus, and included a whole class guided teaching comprehension activity on the life and celebration of St Patrick. Our own Patryk kindly shared sweets with us on St Patrick's Day (Wednesday). We have been also looking in detail about paragraphs, their purpose and how to organise information.

In Maths we have had a focus on time this week. We begun by recapping reading of analogue clocks, before looking at activities to record time and work out elapsed time (the time between the beginning and end of an event).

In science, we have finished our ball rolling investigation and begun to plan and draft our investigation reports.

YEAR 4

The schedule for Week 3 has gone back to normal which means we have been able to focus purely on learning.

In English we have started our new fantasy fiction unit with the class read ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’. We have been focusing on the reading skills of inference and justifying with evidence from the text.

In Math, we have been learning how to convert analogue to digital times and vice versa. We have learnt about am and pm and how converting time accurately depends on the time of day we are talking about.

In Topic we have started our new unit: ‘Entertainment and Leisure’. This week we have explored how football and cinema have evolved over the 20th and 21st century.

YEAR 5

This has been another busy but fun week for Year 5 with lots of snow to still play with and yet the promise of rising temperatures is on the horizon. Our numbers have also grown yet again with another new member to the class who we hope will be very happy here. Everyone has worked hard across the curriculum in all our subjects. In English, we have been considering the purpose and importance of museums both in class and at home with the children producing their own posters and fact files about famous museums in their home countries. In Maths, we have returned to angles and using our protractors to measure and show angles as well as calculating missing angles along a straight line. The end of the week sees us having fun with various units of measurement allowing us to measure, weigh and pour different amounts. We had fun and fear during our Science lesson on Wednesday as Miss Peoples tried not to burn her hands as she demonstrated the carbonisation process when burning a candle and also the effect of blocking the oxygen supply to a burning flame. Marina was in charge of the photographs for this session and she did a fabulous job.
Finally with Topic, the children have been considering the origins of currency and what people used before we had money. They have also been learning about the bartering process and thinking about equivalent values for different goods and things.

YEAR 6

We have been super busy this week in Year 6. We have been working hard and writing our own fictional short story, and maths was really hard, learning how to plot coordinates on grids, and we started our rehearsals for the musical this week. It has been a really hard week, but we pushed ourselves and we did a great job.

With Year 3 we painted a brightly coloured sunflower inspired by VV. Gogh. We recreated Van Gogh's bright colors and simple lines. At the top of the page, children drew one large sunflower that featured in the corner. Then they filled in each petal of the flower with a bright color and filled in the background around the sunflower with a solid blue color.
