YEAR 1
This week in art the children made fabulous pictures of the Eiffel tower as part of the World Travel theme in art classes. In English and Topic we explored the feelings of different characters in Julia Donaldson's book 'Stickman' and practiced our handwriting and spelling skills through the exploration of this topic, and imagined what it would be like to be a stick boy and girl. In phonics classes we looked for meatball phonics in wooly spaghetti, which the children loved and have played every day this week! In maths we explored the properties of 3D shapes, practiced counting in 5s and 10s up to 100 and beyond, and had fun playing shape bingo with more complex 2D shapes such as a decagon.

YEAR 2

This week Year 2 had hands on fun with data management: we used weigh scales to weigh a group of classroom objects. This information was used further to decide on how to order these objects; from heaviest to lightest, or lightest to heaviest. Students were also given the task to make appropriate choices on what objects worked best to weigh against each other, making sure they were relative. Lots of conversation and new words, not to mention concepts; an elephant would not be a good choice to weigh against a mouse, but a mouse would be good choice to compare with a hamster! English, Math, reasoning, logic, and social skills all rolled into one activity; an ideal time for learning!
