YEAR 1

Dear parents,

This week we have been researching the anatomy of trees and plants in science lessons, in response to the poem 'Nut Tree' by Julia Donaldson. We further explored rhyme to help us learn new plant vocabulary and discussed seasonal descriptions. The children illustrated this poem as a craft project to help us understand what the poem means and to use our pictures to further class discussion, alongside to practice listening to our classmates. In maths, we explored more complex shapes and their properties, such as a parallelogram, trapezium and octagon, as well as counting in 2s, 5s and 10s up to 100 and beyond. We also worked on making our own one more/one less robot equations for our classmates to do. We continued to work on our writing skills in topic lessons by using last weekend's homework, which was to write one sentence per day about a daily highlight, to describe these favourite parts of our weekend in more detail. In Russian classes, the children made pancakes, which they immensely enjoying baking and eating! We read the book 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson to engage the children's listening skills and further explore what it means to be a good friend.

YEAR 2

Much to say about our days this week in Year 2!

In honor of Women’s Day (Monday, March 8th) classes at EIS West chose a prominent female persona as a topic to learn more about. Year 2 chose Julia Donaldson, a popular children’s book author. Year 2 students had great fun reading (and re-reading) favorite books like, “The Gruffalo”, “Stick Man”, “Room on the Broom”, and many others. Pupils went on to learn that Ms. Donaldson is from England, and also writes plays and performs.

Friday wrapped our week up nicely with a ‘Maslinitsa’ celebration, allowing students to play games, eat ‘blini’, count ‘baranki’, and enjoy the coming of spring.

Looking forward to next week!

Year 2 Team.
