YEAR 1

Dear parents,

Creative Writing:We have finished our three-week Year 1 Poetry Project! This week we adapted the poem 'Mrs. Pirate' by Nick Sharratt to create our own versions. We then worked on our editing skills by writing up our poems to practice our handwriting skills. Finally, we illustrated our poems to work on our presentation skills and created a class display board of our project, as the class wanted to display their poems on the walls for the school community to read and enjoy!

Maths:We worked on counting in 2s and in 10s this week using counting cubes and categorization objects in the classroom to make sums from toys. This also helped the children to practice their sharing and teamwork skills.

Science:We worked on categorizing herbivores and omnivores from the different animal groups, such as mammals, amphibians, dinosaurs, etc, and focusing on what animals are part of each animal group and why.

PSHE:We introduced the 'What is kindness?' box. The children are being encouraged to fill this box with little handwritten notes of nice things that other children did for them, with the support of the teacher. At the end of each week, we will read these notes, guess who did these kind deeds and congratulate those who did them!

YEAR 2

As we complete the third week of school in January, results of good learning are already showing! Students are producing great examples of Polar Region Habitats, using knowledge they have learned from reading and class discussions.

Students in year 2 have also learned about Yuri Gagarin, our ‘Important Person’ focus for the week. Did you know a replica of the space shuttle Gagarin travelled in, is on display on ‘Gagarin Square’ on Leninsky Prospect? The students were amazed to find the shuttle was sphere shaped!

In Math, students are challenged with learning the 3 times table; slowly but surely we will learn them all! Multiplication is much more fun when we learn all the ‘tricks’; be sure to ask your youngster to show you new tricks as we learn them weekly.

Bring on week 4, we are ready!!
