YEAR 1

Dear parents,
This week our theme has been about 'kindness' and 'actions and consequences' based on Julia Donaldson's book The Smeds and The Smoos.

English: we have been focusing on 'What is rhyme?' in relation to the rhymes in our storybook and making our own rhyming chains.

PSHE: we have continued to develop our writing skills by writing what kind things were done to us each day by our friends at school.

Maths: we have been counting in 2s and 10s and working on ordering these correctly. We have also been working on recognizing and shading fractions, such as quarters, halves and a whole.

Science: we have been labelling animal anatomy in more detail based on our favourite animal characters from storybooks.

YEAR 2

Time flies when one is busy and having fun, and did this week fly by in Year 2! Students learned about Hellen Keller in topic. Hands on learning, literally, as students had a chance to be blindfolded, and have ears covered to muffle sound, to help understand what it is like to be blind and deaf, similar to Hellen Keller. Students went onto print their name in Braille, with pencils and dots, then, moving onto crackers, cream-cheese, and raisins: a yummy and engaging lesson in deed!

The Russian traditional story of ‘the Firebird’ was our class focus story this week. Students looked forward to their daily ‘dose’ of the adventures our hero Ivan had with his new friend, Grey Wolf to help.

Cursive writing continued, as well as progress in multiplication facts, with the 4 times table added to our challenge questions. Spelling this week included opportunity to expand our sentence writing skills, as dictation was added to our Friday vocabulary quiz.

Students are happy learning and have many stories to tell about their day; don’t hesitate to ask how their day went as I am sure they would have much to relate!

Wishing all a restful weekend!

Year 2 Team.

ART

In Year 1 this week we had a discussion on kings and queens: The children were asked who they wanted to be the king or queen of: The children had to choose something they enjoy and are truly good at and think about their talents. Then they were asked to draw a self-portrait showing their particular talent.
