YEAR 1

In Year 1 this week, we have been busy with World Book Week. In English, we have been reading the story of Rainbow Bird about a mean, selfish crocodile who will not share his fire and a selfless Rainbow Bird who takes the fire and shares it with everyone.

As part of World Book Week, we have been making our own bookmarks, designing book covers and creating a Rainbow Bird door display for our classroom. Different teachers have been coming and reading to us every afternoon too.

In Maths, we have been revising the months of the year and learning our number bonds to 20.

YEAR 2

It’s been World Book Week at EIS Moscow and we have had a great time – fun packed and educational!

English has centred on reading and listening to stories all week. Year 2 were read to by Mr Marsh, Ms Peoples, Mr Utting and Ms Alison. They thoroughly enjoyed this novel experience and were excited by the prospect.

We also had a Year 2 book cover design House competition, with some amazing work being produced. The top 3 entries were awarded the appropriate points. There was also a whole-school bookmark competition, so Year 2 completed 4 templates each – some amazing entries included themes around Space, Egypt, Harry Potter, the navy and more. Finally, we decorated our door with a ‘Where’s Wally?’ theme that included opportunities to find Wally and lots of Wally’s that were coloured by the children.

In Maths, we completed all Year 2 designated work on halving and doubling up to 30; although some children were doing 3-digit numbers. We also covered fractions this week – halves, quarters and thirds. We counted in fractions and also completed number lines using mixed numbers. We completed two mastery checkpoints this week but I imagine we will revisit areas such as fractions and time later this year.

Well done, Year 2!!

RUSSIAN

On Tuesday with Year 1, we checked home reading task and learned about consonant В / В’ and symbolic representation of them, practising their writing and reading skills. Also we played a cool game, which called “Пакля-рвакля”. The goal of the game is to look at the cards quickly and say the rhyming words represented by the pictures. The winner is the player with the most cards. This game is great for developing vocabulary and logic!

MUSIC

The pupils from primary school were very busy during music lessons this week. We were rehearsing new songs. They enjoyed it very much. Singing is a very important part of music lessons and students like to sing. Year 1 and Year 2 are exploring the Seasons for Topic. We have been learning about PIANO And FORTE. The students were perfect in performing dynamics sounds. The song ‘Listen at the window’ helped us to explore pitch shapes
