YEAR 1

This week we have been looking at poems. First we wrote acrostic poems about aliens. Then we wrote a descriptive poem about an alien. Finally, we made rhyming couplets about the moon.

In Maths we have been adding and subtracting 1 digit numbers from 2 digit numbers using number facts to help us. We have also been adding 3 small numbers by looking for pairs to 10 and double numbers to make the adding easier.

In Science we have conducted an investigation to find the best material to make curtains by testing transparency. Most of us are good at identifying which objects are transparent, translucent or opaque. We have also been looking at different type of slimes to identify which properties make the best slime. We got a bit sticky but decided that the sticky slime is the best slimne!

In Topic, we have been looking at the explorers Christopher Columbus and Amelia Earhart. Both travelled across the Atlantic Ocean although one by boat and the other by air.

YEAR 2

As our plants grow above their pots, the children continue also to reach new heights!

We have been recording the growth of the plants and recording our findings, but it is obvious we need to find new houses. We have bought bags of soil so we are transferring the plants across to trays, with a view to a garden patch outside somewhere. We are working on it!

We have also placed our rain gauges in the outdoor grounds and we intend on visiting them on a weekly basis. Also in Topic, we looked at extreme weather, watching footage about hurricanes, floods, blizzards, monsoons and droughts. Year 2 wrote passages and depicted the dangerous scenes.

In Maths, we looked at measuring mass in g/kg and capacity in ml/l. In addition, we have mastered block graphs this week and, even, plotted our plant growth results into these for Science.

In English, we looked at contractions, aiming to comprehensively cover the subject over the next 2/3 weeks. We contracted sentences and expanded them, as well as matched them up. Great work!

Well done, Year 2!

MUSIC

Years 1 and 2 learned about Italian traditional music and dance. The students performed “Tarantella” dance in the music class. That was lovely. We explored Italian musical instruments. The students sung in unison the “Giro Giro Tondo” song. We played a new music circle game ‘Bee, bee, bumblebee ’. This game helps students to work on concentration and creates different rhythms by themselves. Everybody likes to be the leader in this game.

ART

Year 1 made a Space project inspired by Neil Armstrong using different mediums such as watercolours, coloured pencils, crayons and coloured paper. Children painted planets with watercolours, drew a spaceship and cut it out and stuck it on a black piece of paper.

On Easter Day, the Easter bunny leaves a wonder Basket in front of the door. The basket is usually filled with colourful eggs and is very festive. Year 2 did an Easter basket drawing, children enjoyed drawing them.
