NURSERY

Our online story this week was ‘Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes’ by Eric Litwin. This story cleverly weaves story and music together.

Pete the Cat is a sweet cat with a positive attitude. He wears white shoes and sings a catchy song as he walks down the street in his shoes. Then he steps in piles of stuff as he walks down the street, turning his shoes into a variety of colours. Then comes the question, “Did Pete Cry?” And the answer is a resounding “No!” He simply continues to walk and sing and each song is about his shoes turning a different colour. By the end of the book, he has stepped in a bucket of water, which has turned his shoes white but wet. There’s a verse in the book for that, too! “I love my wet shoes… “

The moral of the story is no matter what situation you are in, keep going and sing your song… because it’s all good.

We continued with our theme on ‘Wild Animals’ completing animal sorting and counting activities.

We looked at a picture of many different animals. We grouped the same animals together and presented them in the form of a bar graph. The children were quizzed on which was the most or least popular animal. Bar graphs help children to read information. We also sorted out animals into different categories according to how many legs they have.

Nursery had fun searching for wild animals at the zoo playing the game ‘Eye Spy’. Once again animal bingo proved to be a favourite game, bringing out our competitive natures. We also tried our hand at completing a 25-piece puzzle “Who’s in the jungle”.

We enjoyed using our water colours to paint and cut out our elephant masks. We tried out a very exciting new art technique with shaving crème and water dyes. The effect was amazing as we created a tiger with the distinctive orange coat and black stripes. We then placed our tiger in a jungle of trees and grasses.

We hope you enjoy our artworks as much as we did creating them.

RECEPTION

Reception took a Walk on the Wild Side this week. Our activities were based on wild animals. We watched short video clips about different animals and described what they looked like, where they lived, what they ate, etc. The boys were fascinated watching the family of gorillas in their natural habitat. We played Wild Animal Bingo, which is always a firm favourite! Our Maths activities included a Zoo bar graph, Rainforest addition to 20, a 2D shape scavenger hunt, and we played an I spy count to 20. We sorted animals according to colour and according to size and were able to explain why we had sorted the animals in a certain way.

Our Brain Breaks were all centered around wild animals and boy oh boy did the boys get active being all kinds of different animals! We also learnt some different animal yoga poses. We listened to a number of stories and learnt some action poems. We cut out and painted sunset silhouettes of wild animals.
