Welcome back, everyone, to Term 2 in Nursery and Reception. This week we have spent the time getting back into our Early Year’s routines and meeting up with our friends.
The bonus of the week of course has been the wonderful soft fluffy snow. The children have had a wonderful time frolicking in the snow, building snowmen, digging with their spades and playing games. At times we have been met with tears when it was time to return to class, as they were having such a whale of a time.
After returning to school from a three week Winter break we were surprised at how much we remembered from last term. We have had a lot of fun engaging in the revision of numeracy and phonics activities. In Phonics we are revising set 1 of our ‘Jolly Phonic’ sounds. In Numeracy we continue to consolidate our number formation as well as our number concept in the cohort 1-5.
In Literacy we will be looking at the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. This is a story of a clever mouse, three large animals that want to eat him and an imaginary monster, a Gruffalo. Next week we will tell you more about this exiting book in our ‘Talk for Writing’ unit as the term progresses.
Our first topic for this term is ‘Arctic Animals’. We have already found on the map where we live in Moscow, in Russia in relation to where all these wonderful animals live in the Arctic. We look forward to pursing this exciting topic and learning about, similarities and differences in climate as well as the habitat of the different Arctic animals.
In P.E we were able to extend our gross motor skills. Through balancing, hopping, running and negotiating an obstacle course in a small space, we are learning to co-ordinate all our body parts.
We look forward to term of fun, laughter and learning!
