EYFS

Dear Parents,

EYFS are making the most of the snow before it finally melts away, and this week enjoyed building ice castles and igloos following the lead of the older students beautiful igloo constructions. They were also great at colouring butterflies using basic understanding of mirror images (symmetry) and showed off their fine motor skills, by cutting out tulips and daffodils for the Year 1/ EYFS ‘Spring’ display. They created beautiful cherry blossoms by blowing black ink with straws to create branches and sticking on tissue paper flowers.

Last Friday was an exciting and enjoyable day for EYFS as they had their first day out since the COVID restrictions. They went out to the park having fun with their friends on the outdoor play equipment, watched the vehicles responsible for digging up the ice at work, then went shopping at the supermarket near school. Each child chose candy that they wanted, then paid for the candy themselves. They bought chocolates to say thank you to the adults that help us at school, making thank you cards once they got back to school. Then they inserted coins in the machines at the entrance to get two bouncy balls each to continue building marble runs at home. It was a great introduction to the value of money.

In language and literacy, we have learned the “Ll” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letter, singing the song ‘We lick our lollipops…’ and identifying things beginning with ‘Ll’.

We focused on doubling during our Numeracy lessons. Children have confidently doubled using concrete objects, their fingers and drawing marbles. They can all confidently and accurately double amounts up to 5.

In our topic ‘Travel and transport’, we have continued looking at fun places to visit around the world, while locating our home countries on the globe.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
