Dear Parents,
What a beautiful start to the new term- children returned rested, happy and sparkly eyed ready for the start of a new term and new year! And we got to celebrate Yu Han’s birthday with her on our first week back…
In language and literacy, we have learned the “c, k, ck” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letters, singing the ‘We are clicking castanets’ song and identifying things beginning with ‘c, k’.
In Numeracy, we have recapped our knowledge of shapes as well as looked at one more and one less again. We have also extended our counting to 20 using lots of practical and kinaesthetic activities- clapping, hopping, star jumps, following our number footprints, counting out buttons and other concrete materials.
We have begun our new topic ‘Winter Wonderland’ which is perfect with everything covered in snow at the moment. Children have looked at how we dress to keep warm, then dressed their Gingerbread men for winter. We also looked at all the fun activities we can do over winter and made a snow volcano causing it to erupt with a combination of bicarbonate of soda, red colouring and vinegar. They built on their science knowledge of air being all around us and the bubbles formed being full of air.
Wishing everyone a lovely, restful weekend!
