Dear Parents,

This week young inventors were busy at work- they had great fun creating marble runs using meter rules, long cardboard tubes, plastic cups, tip trucks and anything which they found interesting! The room was filled with laughter and shouts of joy as the marbles and bouncy balls landed into chosen containers or rolled away into the distance!

They were also very lucky to have Airi, a year 10 student who works with Miss Melissa in EAL lessons come and read the story of Tom Thumb to them. They sat and listened beautifully to Airi, then later in the day enjoyed watching the video version of the story.

In language and literacy, we have learned the “Uu” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letter, singing the song ‘u, u, up go umbrellas…’ and identifying things beginning with ‘Uu’.

In Numeracy, we have begun looking at capacity this week. We measured liquids using spoons to fill up cups, cups to fill up jugs and a range of different sized containers. Children have identified full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty containers. They also used the balancing scales to pour liquids from two different containers to see which held more water. Measuring liquids that formed bubbles as we poured them was lots of fun!

In our topic ‘Travel and transport’, we looked at each child’s home country, watching videos of beautiful landmarks and tourist attractions, deciding which countries we would like to visit. We have also been making shape cars, buses, trains and boats in art, while painting colourful hot air balloons.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!

RUSSIAN

In Russian EYFS focused on the letter Л. We tried to identify the place of hard consonant Л and soft Л’ - in the beginning, or the middle or in the end of the given words. Children practised their syllabic reading and we also watched a funny video with Aunty Owl, which helped us to learn a lot of words starting with the letter Л.
