Mathematics

Year 13 students continued to work on topic "Trigonometry" - one of the most challenging topics this semester and some have made really good progress in being able to break down complex trigonometrical expressions into basic identities as well as showed an understanding of application of trigonometry in real life.
Year 12 students have embarked upon a journey through Differential Calculus this week and have made slow but steady steps in how to find first and second derivatives of exponential functions, including composite ones.
Year 11 students learnt about cubic and reciprocal functions and their graphs as well as solving problems on modelling real life situations where these types of graphs can be applied. Most students have shown a sound understanding of the topic.
Year 9 students learnt about liner and non linear relationships, how to create table of values and produce linear graphs as well as how to write an equation of a straight line in general and gradient-y intercept form. Congratulations to Yu, Emre and Sophia for scoring over 90% on their first formative assessment of the topic!

Humanities

We’ve had a busy time exploring the world in The Humanities. In Year 7 in History we have gone back in time to the Medieval Period, and in Geography we are looking at the important topic of Population. In Year 8 we are investigating The Industrial Revolution, and whether it was a good or bad thing, and in Geography we are looking at the environmental challenges we face, and most importantly, what we can do about them. In Year 9 History we are beginning the topic of the one of the History’s darkest and most important events : World War Two , and in Geography we are exploring the fascinating Middle East.

Russian Native

Year 10 have made a great start in IGCSE course. Tigran, Milena and Victoria focused on Reading section (Paper 1). The students improved their analysis skills, working on the reading questions with interest and enthusiasm. Well done Y10!

«This was first time, when I wrote example of IGCSE Russian exam, if be more accurate, reading section. This exam is actually kind of like English, because normally Russian exam does not have reading section – the entire exam is based around grammar. There is probably grammar section, but we didn’t get to this one yet» - Tigran, Y10

«My impressions on GCSE were that it wasn’t too hard or to easy, I’d rather say it was quite cognitive. I was able to answer the questions given. I believe that it is right to now give some tasks from GCSEs to students so that we can prepare for the subsequent exams. We would be able to understand how the markings are made and how to answer certain questions. I hope my opinion was helpful» - Milena, Y10

French

For the first week, we studied different ways to say hello and goodbye: Bonjour, Au revoir etc. After learning the vocabulary, each student had to ask to his neighbor his name and how he is feeling: Comment tu t’appelles? Je m’appelle ….. Comment ça va ? je vais bien et toi ?

After that, they had to write a little presentation about themselves : their names, what they like, where they live, where they come from..

To finish the week, we learnt the verb to be in French : être and how to use it properly.

During the next week, we will learn the verb to have : avoir and how to us it with the verb to be. After that we will study the different steps of the day.

English

This week KS4 classes have been focusing on English Language skills relating to non-fiction reading. These have included making inferences, indentifying audience and purpose and analysing how writer's adapt their language to suit these. Furthermore students have read a selection of extracts from different forms of non-fiction such as travel writing, articles and letters.

KS5 classes have continued with their study of literature. Year 12 are in the final stages of completing the famous coming-of-age novel The Kite Runner. Whilst Year 13 remain immersed in their study of Romanticism - reading world famous poems from esteemed poets such as Blake, Wordsworth and Byron.
