YEAR 3
2D and 3D shapes. Do you know what the D stands for and what is the differences between 2D and 3D? Well, just ask your child as this week we have been doing lots of learning around shapes and their properties. We have learned new vocabulary (words) and we even made 3D shapes. Check out the photos. Literacy has been fun. We have continued to use conjunctions in silly sentences and have begun to us paragraphs to group ideas. In Science, our learning this week is around the different kinds of rocks there are and how they are formed. Another great week of learning
YEAR 4
In English, we read the profiles of six applicants for a space mission and choose the ‘Top Two’ candidates based on their personal qualities, past experience and special skills. We chose a fighter pilot who remains calm in crisis situations and an adventurous scientist. In Maths, we practised reading and recording analogue and digital time. In Topic lessons, we placed in the correct sequence six maps showing how the Roman Expire started as a city – Rome – and expanded to become a mighty empire, encompassing Europe, parts of eastern Europe and north Africa. In Art, we drew the famous Roman amphitheatre – the Colosseum – which could accommodate between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. Gladiators fought one another and savage beats in this great edifice. In Science, we tested a range of materials to determine whether they were conductors or insulators. We discovered that metals are good conductors of electricity. We can now identify body parts in French: la bouche, le nez, les yeux. In Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE), we thought about what we do well as pupils, and what we can do better. Using this information, we set goals for ourselves to become better learners.
YEAR 5
It has been another enjoyable week in Year 5. In Maths, we have studied time using 12 and 24-hour clocks to solve problems about elapsed time. We also practised converting units of measurement and used logic to solve perimeter problems with unknown sides. In English, we continued our class novel, using it to analyse techniques for building tension. We also practised reading comprehension and correctly using tricky irregular past tense verbs. In Science, we began learning about the planets of the solar system. In Topic, we learned more about different forms of government in Ancient Greece. We then began building our websites which we will use to record our learning throughout the topic. The results were impressive!
