YEAR 3

In English this week we have begun our guided reading. Students have found the development of chocolate (the subject of one of our books) interesting and engaging and have been asking thoughtful questions. We have also been looking at sentence structure and how reading our writing aloud can help us to work out where our sentences finish and a new one begins. In support of our Topic subject we have been looking at the differences between open and closed questions to aid our research on Ancient Egypt.

In Maths we have been looking at money concepts this week. We have been counting coins using Russian and British currency, and changing pence into pounds and pence. It has been very pleasing to see how engaged and motivated the students have been to learn.

In PSHE we have been looking at friendships by identifying what qualities good friends have. Finally, in Computing we have focused our work on identifying why it is important to keep safe online and some ways to achieve this.

YEAR 4

Year 4 has had a busy and fun week 5!

In English, we have had a heavy reading focus concentrating on the skills of ‘retrieve and recall’ and ‘inference’ when answering comprehension questions about a text. We have also studied the grammatical terminology of ‘prepositions’ and the ‘past tense of irregular verbs’.

In Math, we have learnt how we can use our times tables knowledge to work out inverse operations and to multiply 1 digit numbers by multiples of 10. We have also studied the methods of ‘partitioning’ and ‘grid method’ to multiply 2 digit by 1 digit numbers.

In Topic, we have continued to study about The Romans, with focus on identifying the different social class groups and their roles and importance in Roman society.

In Science, we have continued exploring Electricity and have learnt about the terms ‘conductors’ and ‘insulators’. We sorted everyday objects into both categories based on their material properties.

In Art we made 3D Roman figurines using 2D nets. The children had to use problem solving skills to work out which parts of the nets to cut, fold and stick together.

YEAR 5

Year 5 have had yet another fun-filled and learning-packed week at school. In English, we have been appreciating poetry and the interesting language used by poets from the Emerald Isle. Everyone has worked hard on reviewing their common fractions before learning how to work with decimal fractions which has really helped to get the brain cells rocking and rolling. In Science, we got to begin our first investigative lesson where the children worked in small groups to carry out Shadow Stick investigations. We were all so immersed and involved in this that I didn’t have the chance to photograph our progress. On top of this, everyone has been enjoying the other areas of the curriculum including Music, Art and PE.

YEAR 6

We have had a great week in Year 6! We welcomed a new student to our class Amalia. We have been extremely busy writing our Save Pompeii pieces for English class, it has been a lot of work but we are getting better and better each day! We have also had a lot of fun learning about the Gods of the ancient Mayan and Aztec people! It has been a great week, but a very busy one but we are all rising to Mr. Marsh’s challenges and doing great!

RUSSIAN

Year 5 has been continuing to work hard in Russian class this week. We have been learning about Syntax with focus on the Principal and Secondary Sentence Parts. Each student has been given a sentence to analyze and address questions to the Secondary parts correctly. Then the students were also given a chance to explain and "teach" the others in class, using their sentence as an example. It was a challenging exercise, but everyone did great. Well done Year 5! Keep up the hard work!

MUSIC

Year 5 explored different leitmotifs and guess which films they belong to. Year 6 have learned Cantares song from Aztecs. We explored how many sounds the Aztec people had and how they played Cantares songs on drums.
