YEAR 3

Back to online learning this week in Year 3, but everyone has been working hard. In English, we have been focusing on creating improved sentences through adding a range of adjectives to nouns, and our reading through a range of comprehension activities. Toward the end of the week, we continued to build up our writing for our autobiographies. In Maths we have focused on measurement this week, looking at capacity, volume and converting ml into l. In Science we looked at food chains and identified the different producers and consumers in an animal’s food chain. Topic had us focusing on the Eid al-Fitr celebration, where online students made PowerPoint presentations answering a range of questions.

YEAR 4

Despite the difficulties faced from online learning again this week Year 4 students have battled through and shown great improvements:

In English we have been focusing on grammar and how to write more complex and exciting sentences. We have learnt how to incorporate fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and a wider variety of subordinating conjunctions.

In Math, we have been learning to round 4-digit numbers to 10, 100, 1000, multiply 3 digit by 1 digit numbers using grid method and divide 2 digit by 1 digit numbers without remainders.

In Topic we have been continuing to learn about different celebrations from around the world. This week we learnt about ‘Chuseok’ (Korean National Holiday), its origin traditions and customs.

In Science we have continued our unit about ‘Dangers to Living Things’. We discussed about positive ways people can help the environment.

YEAR 5

Year 5 have had a very interesting week. We have been delighted to be able to get back into school even if some of our peers have had to continue learning at home. Despite all the ongoing challenges, restrictions and issues surrounding
Covid, we have continued to work hard as well as enjoy the dipping temperatures and snow outside. Our English began with the further opportunity to continue our diary writing at the beginning of the week and then we returned to reading our shared e-reader,Friend or Foe where the excitement and intrigue is beginning to build as David and Tucky have witnessed the crash of a Nazi aircraft on the moor. For Maths, the children have worked very well and accurately on reviewing place value and been
able to round up and down large numbers as well as decimal fractions. In Science we recapped on our parachute investigations and are considering a new investigation to test buoyancy. This lesson was cut short, in a very nice way, with the opportunity to decorate the Christmas tree and the library on Wednesday along with the children from EYFS and Year 1. It was slightly chaotic but a lot of fun! Year 5 have been working very well in Topic over the past couple of weeks, both in class and online where they have been learning about Diwali, Eid and Ramadan and this week, Hanukkah. Having acquired some extra lessons into our timetable, we have been working on a Genius Hour project which everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying. Time is running short but the children are more on task than they realise and should have their ideas completed by the last week of term. All in all, the children have been brilliant. Excited but on form and we only have a couple more weeks to go before the end of this first term. Let’s keep it up!

YEAR 6

Year 6 has been very busy this week. We have been working very hard on preparing for our Celebration Film Project. We have been sharing and working together to create scripts background settings, characters and learning how to use our devices to film our projects separately and then put them together. It has been a challenging week, but we have been trying our best to make sure we are getting all our work done during this busy time of the year.

RUSSIAN

This week Year 5 students who study Russian as a foreign language read a fairy tale about the Fox and the Stork, also known as the Fox and the Crane. It is one of Aesop's fables. The Fox invites the Stork to eat with him, provides soup in 2 very shallow bowls and wants to play a trick on the Stork. The moral of this fable is that the trickster must expect trickery in return and that the golden rule of conduct is for one to do to others what one would wish for oneself.

Our students read this story in Russian, translated it into English, asked and answered questions correctly, understood the moral of the story, completed a fascinating quiz and will be doing a crossword puzzle with the words from this story next week. We are very proud of the success of the students!

ART

Y4 created their own snow globes, Y 5,6 and 7 made a colourful and creative Santas using different mediums, which provides a unique look and feel to each project. Well done everyone!

FRENCH

With the primary class, kids from year 6 studied the food in French. To improve their comprehension, we listened a song "Belle et Sebastien" from Zaz. The children had to write the good missing words. The year 3 and 4 learnt the animals in French. To remember the names, they listened to the sound of each animals, played crosswords and played to animal lotto.
