YEAR 3

Despite being back online, Year 3 has been working very hard this week to keep things as routine as possible. In English we have been continuing our work on autobiographies and thinking about what special memories we could include in our final piece. We have looked at how and why these memories are so special to us.

In Maths, we have been working to add and subtract money, first converting to the same unit of measurement before using the operations. Additionally, we have been using our addition skills to find number bonds of 100 and 1000, and even moving into decimal numbers as an extra challenge.

In Science we have looked at the different food groups and the types of food that can be found in these groups. We created our own meals for the day and identified the types of food types we have eaten. In Topic, we have been looking at the story of Diwali, and recreating the story of Rama and Sita.

YEAR 4

Unfortunately, Year 4 had to complete their learning online this week but despite this we still learnt a lot this week! This is what we have been doing this week:

In English, we have been planning and drafting the first version of our spooky podcasts. We have been learning about techniques to build up suspense in a story and trying to apply these strategies in our writing.

In Math, we have been looking at measuring mass and converting between grams and kilograms. We have also been looking at measuring capacity and converting between litres and millilitres and vice versa.

In Science, we have been carrying on learning about food chains. We have had discussions about environmental factors and the negative impact they can have on food chains.

In Topic, we have been learning about the celebration of ‘Carnaval do Brazil’ and South American festivals in general.

YEAR 5

Despite this having been a challenging week for Year 5, they have been fantastic throughout and I am really really really pleased with every single one of them. We have continued our learning following our usual timetable of subjects with
excellent attendance throughout. The children have applied themselves well to completing tasks involving preparation for diary writing; maths work on reflex, obtuse and acute angles and much fun was had making our own parachutes together, safely, online. So amidst all the intensity, there have been happy moments together! However, we are very glad to see the weekend and very much hope that we will be back into the school building next week to continue this great learning.

YEAR 6

We have been very busy this week in Year 6. While we have been back online this week, we have still been working very hard and doing amazing work. We have been working very hard in groups finishing up our scripts for our Celebration films that will be coming up. As well we have been learning how to do short division and fractions this week. It has been difficult online, but we have not given up and keep working extremely hard.

FRENCH

This week, we studied the daily routine in French. How to say "I wake up, I get up, I go to school etc ".

To be more precise, the students learnt the linking words : tout d'abord, puis, ensuite, enfin, finalement. After that, each of the students talked about his daily routine.

To improve their comprehension, they listened to a video about a school day and they had to answer some questions. Finally, they had to read and understand a text about the steps of a typical school day.

RUSSIAN NATIVE

In Russian native Y3 read the story of Valentina Oseeva "Почему?". This is a story about the boy who lied to his mother. We looked at how the boy's feelings changed throughout the story and how a strong love for the dog forced the boy to tell his mother the truth. After that, the students completed a test at home, answering questions about the content of the story to reinforce their knowledge from the previous week. Also the students wrote a few sentences about their impressions and read them to their classmates. Thanks for your very interesting opinion, Y3! Well done!

ART

This week children were creating art from the comfort of their own homes. They were sketching and painting and made a good looking art.Y 5,6 and 7 made a beautiful sketch of Red Cardinal Birds, Y 4 were making a skating project Art. Y 1 and 2 drew themselves catching snowflakes, and Y3 were painting a Red Cardinal bird as well.
