Year 3

Year 3 have been recapping the learning covered throughout the half term in preparation for ending the term and beginning of Summer term. In English, we have been covering different prefixes – anti-, dis- and un- and recognizing how they change the meaning of the base word. We have also been focusing on different past, present and future forms of different verbs and articles. In Maths we have been looking at subtraction of larger numbers including decimals like money, identifying time to the nearest minute and converting between minutes and seconds. In Science, we have been recapping the different aspects of fair tests such as identifying things that change, what remains the same and what is measured in a range of investigations. In Topic we have been understanding how water the water use gets recycled -by cleaning – and sent back to us. Students have been sharing videos and teaching us about important aspects of their home cultures.

Year 4

This week was a very busy week in Year 4. We learned about the work of Gerald Durrell who was a conservationist who did great work conserving the indigenous wildlife of Madagascar. We also investigated the impact of the television on how we live today and most of us couldn’t imagine a life before the invention of television. We celebrated both Easter and International this week, putting our creative juices to work, we create Easter bunnies with things around the house.

It has been another busy week for Year 5 with a noticeable increase in attendance for all our conference calls which is fantastic. We have started reading a new class reader, I, Cosmo by Carlie Sarosiak which is interesting was it is encouraging the children to think about life as seen through the eyes of a Golden Retriever! This will tie in nicely with next week’s theme of Book Week. In Maths, the children have been reviewing their Place Value skills and for Topic, we have started a new unit of work on Mountains which I know will interest everyone as Year 5 are really interested in learning about different places, countries and landscapes.

The children have also been participating in the spirit of International Week and submitted beautiful photos of some delicious foods from their home country.

Year 6

This week year 6 has been Very busy! We have been working hard on completing our Maths, English and Science quizzes; as well we have been learning how to prepare food for International Week. Our class picked Italy to focus on and each of us have been preparing an Italian meal for our families. It was very challenging but a lot of fun.

FRENCH

This week in French primary was very active. All year groups participated in online learning via the assignments and taking part in conference calls. For them it is such a good opportunity to practice pronouncing French sounds! Year 3 pupils have started to learn the parts of the body. They sang a song « Tête épaules, genoux et pieds » that was really fun. Year 4 pupils focused on the revision this week. In year 5 pupils have learnt sports vocabulary. Year 6 is more into new technologies now. Pupils learnt the names of technology supplies and how to say what they are used for.
