Year 3

In year 3 this week, the students have discovered the wonders of Zoom video conferencing. After 2 weeks of hard work online they are still very excited and engaged in elearning. In Maths this week we have been recapping and extending our knowledge of fraction – we practiced identifying the correct terminology when using fractions, identifying different equivalent fraction using multiplication - if you multiply the numerator and a denominator by the same number you will always get an equivalent fraction i.e ½ x 2 = 2/4. Students have also been extending themselves by working to simplify fractions using their division skills. This was a deliberately challenging task for our class as simplifying fractions is an objective in upper KS2.

English this week has seen us learn about different types of poetry. Students have created their own acrostic poems based on their own names; alliteration poems using the first letter of their names and rhyming poems.

In Science students have been analyzing different principles involved in creating a fair test. They analyzed a range of different investigations, identifying the variables, the control and recognizing what was being measured.

In Topic, we have been continuing our work on recycling. We analysed the ways in which some common items, which often end up in the trash, can be re-used for other purposes.

Year 4

Happy Easter to all who celebrate this time! We have had another busy week in Year 4 this week. We completed our Science topic on Water systems and we learned what it was like taking a vacation in the 1960’s. We designed a ride for our holiday camp and came up with some interesting ideas! We also took a virtual school trip to the beach and looked for creatures that live in this habitat. In English we learned about character traits and how we can use these when writing a description.

Year 5

What a week this has been been! We have reached Friday, very much ready for the weekend but hopefully a lot clearer about where we will be going in terms of our Home Learning from Monday and over the next however number of weeks. Monday was the last day of the usual school day and routines as of Tuesday, the children very much spent their time getting used to using their devices in class. We have spent all our learning time in class this week working from Canvas and just getting familiar with the approach we must take in terms of reading the instructions set by myself and trying to work proactively and independently. I have said this a hundred times, this is a huge learning curve for myself and it will be for all the children however we will work through this together to maintain our daily routine, high standards and expectations for excellent learning. I do hope though that we will get to see each other again very very soon.

Year 6

Year 6 has been very busy this week. We have been working hard to finish up all of our assignments as we wrap up the Spring Term and get ready to head into the Summer Term. We have also been preparing for International Day coming up next Friday! Each of us have been busy and working very hard. Mr. Marsh has been proud of all of our hard work and the great job that we have been doing during this challenging time.

Music

Year 3 works on solfeggio and ear training and also sings songs Dad I Want to Be a Camel, She'll Be Comin Round the Mountain When She Comes and The Green Grass Grows All Around. Key Stage 2works on the history of music and explores Baroque era. This week they were learning about J.S.Bach and his organ works. They learnt about some of Bach's professions like Cantor and Concertmaster. Do you know who is cantor and concertmaster?

PE

This week with Primary school we have been enjoying our Workout conference calls to keep working as a team. We worked with small balls and complete obstacle exercises. It was really interesting and checked the possibility to complete task at home! It has been very interesting and fun.

Also we took part in the PE challenge. I got a lot of responses from children who showed excellent results. Thank you to all of students for enthusiasm and hard work!
