Year 1
What a fantastic week it has been in Year 1. Although we haven't been physically together in the classroom, we have met every morning to chat, play games and revise what we have learned in the week. Well done to all of Year 1 who have been putting in their best efforts even when learning at home.
In English, we have looked at tricky words. We used Seesaw to read tricky words, and recorded ourselves reading them slowly and correctly. Phonics is very important to focus on as it is how we learn to read and write words. We had great fun on phonics play too during our English lesson on Friday and how lovely it has been to listen to readers every day this week. We also started to look at putting words in alphabetical order and it was great to see everyone using their alphabet skills to do this.
In Maths, we have been learning about halving numbers. It is important that we use counters to help us 'see' the maths and get the correct answer by sharing into 2 equal groups. Year 1 also looked at how to identify tens and ones in 1 and 2 digit numbers. We used a really fun resource on the computer to help us count! We finished the week with different activities on our favourite maths website Mathletics!
Science lessons saw us take part in an experiment that used water, a bowl and a whiteboard pen! It was so interesting to see what we all made and how it moved around the bowl. In Topic, we created a checklist and thought about what things we need when we travel around the world. Lots of us had very different ideas!
I am really looking forward to next week where we can keep learning, reading and having fun with everyone. Another big well done to all the children!
Year 2
I have to say I am very proud of Year 2. No matter what happens they keep soldiering on and producing a high standard of work. Amazing!
In English, we analysed the Growing Chocolate interactive eBook before creating adverts for our own chocolate bars, along with catchy slogans to tempt would-be buyers. We also wrote paragraphs about our favourite animals on land, in the air and in the sea.
In Maths, we have mastered our knowledge of money at Year 2 level and looked at life in the trenches for WW1 soldiers in Topic. There was some great research and artwork to accompany our writing.
In Science, we investigated changing the shape of paper to make objects that could fly in different ways and float on water. I saw amazing videos and photos of the children throwing ninja stars, boomerangs and jets. I also saw paper boats and canoes floating on water. No adults were harmed during the making of these videos!
