YEAR 1

In Year 1 this week we have been continuing to practice our sentence building skills. We have used pictures to write sentences, we have ordered words to form sentences and we have added capital letters and full stops to sentences.

In Maths, we have been revising the areas we have covered this term such as number bonds to 5 and 10 and finding 1 more and 1 less of a number. We have also been estimating by making good, sensible guesses about how many objects we can see. We then counted to check how good our estimates were.

In Science we have continued looking at the body’s senses. First we used our sense of hearing to identify sounds such as the doorbell, water running and an alarm clock. We tried to identify different items in pots just using our sense of smell. We tested mint, coffee, perfume, soap and onion. Our favourite smell was the perfume and our least favourite smell was the onion, as you can see from our photos!

In Topic, we have been looking at aerial views. We drew our own aerial view of a town or city and labelled the human or physical features. We also looked at aerial plans and drew a plan of our classroom.

YEAR 2

We’re almost there, can you believe it? The penultimate week of our first half term has finished!

In Maths and English, we have completed our assessments after a, quite intense, revision focus for the first half of the week. The children have worked really hard and are, naturally, very tired.

Our Science assessment involved a large depiction of a life cycle of a living thing of our choice along with text boxes, from some, to provide information about what they need to survive and thrive. We used our extensive library and/or devices to research and complete our projects.

In Topic, we studied Poland and all things relating to her culture. Thanks to Nadia, we found out a lot about her country and even listened to Chopin whilst we worked on our fact-files and flags.

We worked as a team again in PSHE as we operated in Table Teams to pick up leaves around the yard. We had first, second and third positions to make it interesting, but the take-away message was working together really helps when completing jobs and tasks!
