YEAR 1
We have had another busy week in Year 1! In English, we have been reading the story of the Rainbow Fish. We have identified the characters, sequenced the story, described Rainbow Fish and acted out the story with stick puppets! In Maths we have been learning how to double numbers and how to find one more and one less of numbers using a number line.
This week in Science, we have been learning about the senses of sight and touch. We drew and labelled pictures of an eye. We used our sense of touch to guess what was in feely bags and then we described what we felt.
In Topic, we have discussed physical (beach, river, mountain) features and human (city, shop, house) features. We added our own physical and human features to a map.
YEAR 2
This week we have been looking at tessellation in Maths – some of us covered a large egg in various polygons whilst others used dotted paper to complete complex sequences. We noticed that tessellation is all around us; from buildings to plants and to animals! We also looked at symmetry and used mirrors and folded paper to help our investigations.
In English, we revised capital letters, full-stops and using past tense in our writing. We even became teachers and corrected work. In Phonics, we discovered lots of words with ‘ee’ and ‘ea’ digraphs.
Pakistan and her culture were the subject of our Topic work and we learned a lot, especially with the help of Meerab. We even coloured our own mehndi designs.
We used our great outdoor space in PSHE as we were learning about the benefits of team work and helping each other. We needed to work as a whole class to complete tasks and compete in invasion games such as ‘Shark Attack’!
Finally, in Science we got to see what we all looked like as babies, toddlers and younger children by inspecting photographs. We even had a look at mine – they weren’t in black and white, I promise. We also looked at animals and their offspring? Did you know an owl has owlets and crocodiles have hatchlings?

ART
With Year 1 this week we were drawing our own ‘’pop art ‘’cats with crayons and learnt what is pop art. Year 2 Learnt how to draw leaves, and then put them in a grid. A variety of types, sizes and positions made a pretty fall drawing. It includes six basic types of leaves so students can just begin to learn the different names, without getting too scientific.
MUSIC
It was exciting to explore sounds that we can make with Year 1 and Year 2. We sang a song and made different sounds by themselves and with instruments. We explored high and low pitch, and that not every musical instrument can change pitch. Students were happy to play on the piano. Now we know how to find middle C.
