YEAR 1

During our online learning this week, we have been looking at the story of the Gingerbread Man. We have drawn pictures to help us retell the story and we have written sentences about the gingerbread man.

In Phonics we have been learning the long ‘oo’ like in zoo and the short ‘oo’ like in book. We practiced writing some words with these sounds.

We have been talking about length and height in Maths. We looked around our houses to find tall and short and long and short objects and then used them to make sentences. We have also been measuring objects in our house using hand spans and rulers.

In Science we have learned about mammals and birds. We drew our favourite mammal and favourite bird and added labels to our pictures.

In Topic we learned about the celebration of Thanksgiving and about Brazilian carnival. Then we made some carnival masks.

YEAR 2

The children have really worked hard and adjusted to the ever-changing environment of 2020 this week! A huge well done and thank you to the children and parents for stepping up to the challenge.

In English, we have looked at ‘oa’, ‘ow’, ‘o_e’ words during our Phonics sessions. Some of use have tackled comprehension questions based on our Science theme this week – mini-beasts!

In Maths, we have finished off our number and place value focus for the term with adding and subtracting 10s and 1s. Our weekly assessment has shown that the children have certainly cracked this one.

In Topic, we have looked at Eid and Ramadan as part of our ‘Celebrations’ unit. We read a story about Ramadan, produced some Art about Eid and listened to Alvina give us some expert guidance.

In Science, we have produced another labelled habitat. This time, as mentioned earlier, it was a mini-beast habitat. The typical back garden can be a perfect habitat for mini-beasts under the earth, in the undergrowth and in the air. Watch out for those spiders!

You have been amazing, Year 2! Well done!

MUSIC

Although we were on e-learning this week, we had such a great week in music. The students have discovered interesting facts about the life of such great composers as Mozart, Beethoven and Gustav Holst. Year 1 and year 2 talked about interesting musical instruments and the countries that these instruments represent. Year 1 and Year 2 were very excited about the instruments, and they played in class on their own, such as harmonica, guitar and piano, and xylophone.

We have such talented students at our school. We listened to their wonderful performances with great pleasure. Thank you, very much.
