Year 1

In Year 1 this week, we have been learning about rhyming words. We have written our own sentences that rhyme. We have also learned about singular and plural.

In Maths, we have been learning about teen numbers, how to order numbers and we have been finding the number that comes between.

In Science, we have introduced our new unit on ‘Types of Animals’ by looking at animals and their babies and naming the animals that live in different places.

In Topic, we have thought about what we already know about this half term’s topic of Celebrations. The first celebration we have looked at is the Festival of Lights, Diwali. We made Rangoli patterns and paper diyas (candles).

In ICT, we have been learning how to use the Paint application to make a picture. We started by making a face. Take a look at some of our efforts!

Year 2

Welcome back Year 2! Our autumn term 2 has begun in earnest and we’re seeing excellent examples of work already.

This week we have started our ‘Celebrations’ theme in Topic; we have kicked off with Bonfire Night which stems from the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot where he and his associates tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. This theme has permeated most of our subjects as a result. We wrote cloze passages and sequenced the events that took place in 1605.

In English, we completed Guy Fawkes comprehension tasks, learnt about verbs and ‘ou’ & ‘ow’ words in Phonics. We also read the book, ‘Sparks in the Sky’. In Maths, we have looked at addition and subtraction with multiples of 10 and near 10 digits.

In Science, we also started a new unit – ‘Habitats’. We looked at why living things choose and thrive in certain habitats, including human beings. Year 2 chose various animals and drew the surroundings of that habitat – making sure to include a food source!
