Year 1

Another week of distance learning has passed in Year 1 and it has been fantastic to see everybody taking part and working hard!

In English, we have been focusing on building sentences and writing our own. Everyday we have been meeting with Ms. Pollard to either read online or learn our phonic sounds that include 'ear' and 'igh'. Maths lessons have seen us looking at our tens and ones but also revising our number bonds to 20. We had fun using Seesaw to find shapes that are in our house and taking pictures of what we saw.

Year 1 have been working very hard in their specialist lessons too and it's been great to see videos and photographs that have been sent from those lessons. I have no doubt that next week the hard work and focus from Year 1 will continue. A big well done to everyone in Year 1!

Year 2

Year 2 have had another busy and very practical week this week. Once we completed some maths assessments, we turned our attention to revising the topics we’ve been learning this spring term.

In English, we read Silly Billy, a book about a young boy who is a chronic worrier. We found out that most of his worries were in his imagination and he was helped by his grandmother who showed him how to create worry dolls. So, this week we tackled some comprehension questions about Silly Billy and, after, created our own worry dolls.

In Topic, we learnt about the Lady with the Lamp, Florence Nightingale, who was the founder of modern nursing. We discovered that war is a terrible thing but even in war there can be something positive. It was Florence Nightingale who also helped change the way women were viewed in society.

In Science, we undertook an ambitious assessment project and created our own theme park rides. Check out the videos on the EIS SW Instagram account! Many have moveable parts and were created using a variety of materials. I was amazed by the results, well done!

Music

Key Stage 1 is working on their music litercy. Year 1 and 2 explore rhythm, quarter and 8th notes, pauses and time signatures. They do lots of exercises with rhythm, write rhythms of familiar songs and do rhythmic dictations. Also they enjoy singing the songs - I'm a Spring Chicken, Yankee Doodle, It's a Beautiful Day and My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.

PE

This week with Primary school we have been enjoying our Workout conference calls to keep working as a team. We worked with small balls and complete obstacle exercises. It was really interesting and checked the possibility to complete task at home! It has been very interesting and fun.

Also we took part in the PE challenge. I got a lot of responses from children who showed excellent results. Thank you to all of students for enthusiasm and hard work!
