Nursery

The online engagement and interactive learning of Nursery has once again been amazing this week.

Our learning goals this week were based around the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

This child's book shows the development and growth of a caterpillar which then turns into a beautiful butterfly. The child theme is shown because of the use of language and the clear pictures.

The story aims to teach the children about eating healthily, and learning the names of different fruits; apples, pears, plums, strawberries, and oranges.

Other concepts learned were counting, days of the week, and new vocabulary.

One of the main highlights of the book is how the caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly.

Reception

This week has been a very Grrr…Gruffalo kind of week. All this week’s activities have been inspired by this wonderful children’s story by Julia Donaldson. A lot of fun was had by the children in Reception as their creativity and engineering skills were really put to the test.

The children used toys that they had at home to retell the story, The Gruffalo and learnt how to sing the Gruffalo song. They made some beautiful 2D shape pictures of the characters from the story and even made an underground home, just like Fox’s. These underground homes had strict rules posted outside to explain who was allowed in and whether or not picnics were permitted inside. Some children even made beautiful paper gardens for visitors to enjoy. The children in Reception enjoyed being scientist this week too, finding out what effect different types of liquids had on jelly snakes. Our live lessons were also popular, with nearly all of the class joining us for phonics, stories and a chance to say hello and share some news.
