Reception

Wow, what a wonderfully busy week we have had in Reception this week. With Easter being celebrated in Russia on Sunday, we have spent the whole week focusing our learning tasks on this special occasion.

On Monday, the children met the Easter Bunny who read them his favourite story, The Rhyming Rabbit. On Tuesday the Rhyming Rabbit sent them a note asking the children to help him to think of some new rhyming word strings. Reception, of course, were very eager to help their new friend and thought of lots and lots of rhyming words. He was delighted!

The children have also been very busy creating Easter themed crafts for the EIS Easter Art competition. The children transformed the eggs that they coloured last week in a science experiment, into the most eye-catching Faberge eggs. After learning about symmetry, some children made some colourful, symmetrical egg art. They looked fabulous.

In Mathematics, the children have continued to amaze me by solving my daily Maths challenges so quickly. They have been learning about number bonds with the help of some of the Numberblock characters and had great fun building ramps to see how far an egg could roll. Each distance was carefully measured in slippers and shoes, all of the same size to make sure that their measurements were comparable.

Science experiments are always very popular with the young learners in Reception. This week’s investigations were to find out what will happen to an uncooked egg placed in vinegar and exploring what happens to a carrot top when it is placed in water for a few days. Treasure Hunts are always so much fun and this week Reception put on their thinking caps and set off on an Inventor Scavenger Hunt, searching for objects that are transparent, bumpy and soft, and objects that you can turn, twist and put together. All in all, it has been a very busy and productive week.

Nursery

Our online learning programme this week in Nursery has been based on the Easter theme. Our children have benefitted greatly from engagement during live lessons in both English and Russian.

Fun filled inter active activities across all the learning areas of the Early Year’s curriculum have been completed.

Our children enjoyed engaging in the kitchen with their parents and made yummy healthy Easter treats.

Number recognition and counting included lots of bunny hops, jumping, clapping and skipping.

Our new Jolly Phonics sound ‘c’ was introduced through pictures stories and rhymes. The children enjoyed learning the songs and the actions and could be seen dancing rhythmically with their clicking castanets. They are ready for more extension in this area next week.

The fun and I have no doubt the pleasure, experienced by the children, is evident in the gorgeous Easter crafts they have made this week. Nursery were particularly excited to enter the Easter Art and craft competition. You will have to wait for next week to see our fantastic entries.
