Dear Parents,

With the start of the new half term, children have returned refreshed, full of energy and very resilient with seeing a new face in the classroom.

In language and literacy, we have learned the “Ss” sound in phonics, learning how to form the letter ‘s’, singing the ‘Snake in the grass’ song, decorating our spotty snake and finding things that begin with ‘s’.

In Numeracy, students have begun identifying numerals that go with their amazing counting. This week they have been counting objects and recording them as numbers. They have had fun with interactive whiteboard activities counting out amounts, writing the amount in figures and comparing amounts as ‘more’, ‘less’ or the ‘same’. They continue to practice ordinal numbers when lining up to go outside (I am first, I am second, etc).

In our learning area ‘Understanding of the World’, we have begun to look at the topic ‘Celebrations’ and what a great start to the topic with the celebration of Katya’s birthday! We also listened to the story of Guy Fawkes and how Bonfire Night is celebrated in the UK, practicing pencil control by tracing lines of fireworks and creating a fireworks painting. We started making our rocket firework which we will complete next week when we learn about the Hindu celebration of Diwali.

Lucky EYFS- they get to celebrate Halloween once again this Friday joining the rest of the school in their scary costumes and reinforcing our topic ‘Celebrations’

Wishing everyone a lovely, restful weekend!
