Year One

This week, Robin shared a book he illustrated and wrote with his mother. He re-wrote the book, “The Way Back Home” by Oliver Jeffers. We were all very impressed with their hard work! Timur also shared a medal he won from his ski trip to Switzerland. He told us all about his experience in the Alps. Academically, we started learning about different types of animals in science. As a group, we investigated the animal kingdom by creating a flow chart that explains how animals are different. We discovered that some animals are invertebrates (animals without backbones) and vertebrates (animals with back bones). In Maths, we concentrated on fractions. We played different games to solidify understanding. Next week we will be learning about time!

Year 2

Year 2 started a new topic this week about how animals helped during the First World War. We learned how dogs carried medical equipment, pigeons were trained to deliver letters, horses and even elephants transported heavy equipment. Year 2 designed medals for bravery. Year 2 have begun learning a new song and will perform this during the upcoming PTA Coffee Morning. Of course, we have also been very careful to wash our hands regularly and try to keep our hands to ourselves. Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the story about Narnia last week and this week we continued to learn about the characters from the story by writing character descriptions and discussing which characters would make a good friend. Well done Year 2!
