Nursery
Even though this was a four day week, Nursery have been very active. We continued to read two different stories relating to Elmer the Elephant, and discussed and learned new vocabulary as we now learning to listen to stories with increased attention and recall. Using the smart board we were able to reinforce all the Jolly phonics sounds learned so far through pictures sounds and stories. We are being encouraged to hear and say initial sounds in our names and some words. We love to practise our letter formation on the white board it is like magic. We continue to build and recognise numbers from 0-8.
Reception
This week, in Reception, our focus story has been, Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. The story is based on a young bear who decides that he wants to go to the moon. He builds himself a rocket, packs a picnic and blasts off into space. He meets some friends along the way but discovers that there really isn’t much to do on the moon so he decides to make the journey back home.
The children have really enjoyed retelling the story using various props. They also made some story maps that helped them to help them to retell the key events in the story in the correct order, learning lots of new vocabulary along the way!
Reception have also been very busy making some fabulous 2D shape rockets as one of the Mathematics tasks this week. In addition to this, they have made some paper rockets and thoroughly enjoyed seeing how far they could throw them and measuring the distance that each rocket travelled.
Making a space station and rocket big enough to fit two children inside is their next chosen challenge! The current theme, Space, really has captured their imaginations.
