Year One
Earth Week has been full of learning and interesting information! We learnt all about how trees help the Earth, what happens when we pollute the water, and what we can do to keep the Earth healthy. In Science, we did an experiment to see what would happen if we added rubbish to water. We discovered that the water becomes very dirty. It would not be a great place to live! In English, we made signs for our house to remind us to save energy. In Art, we made animals out of bottle caps and in Maths, we learnt about growing patterns. On Friday, we each shared something we made at home for Earth week. I wonder what else we could do to help the planet?
Year 2
Year 2 enjoyed learning about Earth Day! Earth day took place on the 22nd of April. This year was the 50th anniversary. We introduced the new topic by reading a story about a Messy Magpie. The children spotted lots of rubbish in the pictures left behind by careless humans! We talked about recycling and discussed the different types of materials that can be recycled. We learned about what happens to these materials, how they can be transformed into other objects and reused. Year 2 looked for the recycling symbol ‘three arrows’ on bottles and cartons at home. We talked about climate change and what could happen if the ice melts in the Arctic. Year 2 wrote letters to Mr Hannah full of great ideas to reduce waste at school and turn EIS into a Green school. Well done Year 2! In Maths, Year 2 were learning about measurement. We measured our fingers, arms, hair, height and even our feet! We also learned about measuring weight. We read several recipes and looked at the ingredients. We used our number skills to halve or double the recipes. This was tricky but clever Year 2 did a great job! I can’t wait to see what interesting things you bake at the weekend or over the holidays. Year 2 also learned about being safe in the kitchen and at home. We examined two pictures and spotted all of the dangerous objects, such as the oven, toys on the floor, the hot iron, overloaded plugs and the water near electrical devices. Year 2 were able to spot all these dangerous and also practiced naming furniture, machines and utensils in the home. Year 2 enjoyed their live Music and PE lessons with Ms Katya and Mr Oleg! What a busy week! You all deserve a rest this weekend Year 2!
