Year 1

Although it was a four day week straight after the half term break, Year 1 have jumped back into their studies smoothly and have continued working extremely hard in all their lessons!

During Maths lessons, children have been looking at length and capacity. We learned how to use a ruler by starting at the number 0 and counted carefully to find how long balloon strings were. Year 1 also went around their houses, found different objects and measured them carefully. We also looked at capacity vocabulary such as 'half empty', 'full', 'empty' etc.

In English, we have been revising lots of schools such as capital letters and full stops, sentence structure and using adjectives in our writing work. Everyone has also been punctual to their daily reading session and it is fantastic to see children using their phonics, progressing on to the next reading level and reading more fluently.

Our Science tasks saw us learn about why we have day and night. We watched a story video about the earth and it was interesting to learn how the Earth moves around the sun. In ICT, we took our coding to the next level and started to learn how to use a very basic Java Script. Year 1 used the tutorial to move the panda to different positions, created a special code and clicked 'run' to watch the panda follow their instructions. Some of us had to adapt our code to make sure the panda did the right thing!

Year 2

On our first week back Year 2 have been very practical! They have designed weather measuring instruments - wind vanes and rain gauges - as part of Topic work. I am looking forward to the videos of these in action and the results over the week.

Similarly, in Science the children investigated what birds eat, as related to food chains, by leaving out containers filled with various foods like seeds, bread, fruit, nuts etc. Of course, we recorded our results. Next week we’ll find out which food is the most popular.

In Maths, we looked at units of measurement for mass such as grams (g) and kilograms (kg) and also for capacity such millilitres (ml) and litres (l). In addition, we wrapped up our Year 2 objectives around block graphs.

For English, we tackled further comprehension questions about fish and the rivers of the world. We also wrote story setting paragraphs for various images such as UFOs, haunted houses, treasure islands and more!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

This week we have been enjoying our Workout conference calls to keep working as a team. We worked with small toy and pillow and complete abs and core exercises. It was really interesting and checked the possibility to perform the task at home! Thank you all for participation.

MUSIC

KS1 continues to study music theory and learn how to read music. Also, they started to work on new fun songs.

RUSSIAN FIRST LANGUAGE

This week, students in KS1 have demonstrated their knowledge of the Russian language by completing interesting and fun activities and exercises.
