Year 3
This week we have continued recapping a range of different concepts from the term such as elapsed time, multiplication using the grid method for numbers with larger digits in Maths. In English we have been identifying ideas around paragraphs including using the acronym TiPToP (change of time, place, topic and person speaking) to know when to change paragraphs as well as continuing working to recognize how prefixes such as ‘un-‘ and ‘dis-‘ change the meaning of the base words. In Computing we have been looking at how information is sent over networks.
Year 4
This week we celebrated Book week at EIS and we had an extreme reading challenge where children could send in photos of them reading in unusual and extreme places. We also became more aware of our impact on the environment around us on World Earth day which is celebrated on the 22 of April around the world annually. We celebrated both occasions by creating our favourite book characters out of recycled material found around the house. We also learned to find the fractions of amounts and how to multiply fractions and wrote beautiful poems about our favourite books and characters.
Year 5
Year 5 have continued to work hard throughout this, our final full week before we break up for a ‘holiday’ and most certainly a rest from intensity. Their engagement and participation during our online calls or lesson conferences continues to grow and I always look forward to seeing everyone every morning. We have continued to read through our class reader this week strengthening our comprehension skills and hopefully widening our perspective on life. For Maths we have focused on developing our ‘written’ methods for column addition as well as practising our mental maths. During Topic, everyone enjoyed a virtual tour of mountain ranges around the world and we have even squeezed in some Science, discussing the different types of materials used in the homes around us.
Year 6
Year 6 has been quite busy this week, creating our own stories for our Book Week. Each of the students have been working hard to create their own story on a new program we are using called Pixton. The students were able to create their own characters, create their own actions and insert dialogue to make an amazing collection of stories. It has been a very challenging week but a great week and we are all excited about the upcoming break!
MUSIC
KS2 is finishing to learn about Broque era in music. They studied music of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi. Now they know what is the difference between concerto and concerto grosso, why bigger organ's pipes sound lower and why Vivaldi's nickname was Red Priest.
