Year 3

The first week back after the half term holiday has seen us move upstairs with the rest of Key Stage 2. Although we are still setting up, the students have really settled into the new room enjoying added space for working. In English we have focused on World Book Day work including analyzing different texts and writing short book reviews. In Maths we have looked at the different concepts we are going to learn this half term, and recognizing what we might be able to do already. In Science we have finished our Light and Shadows unit by conducting an investigation into determining what makes shadows large or small. In Topic we have looked at the new unit Recycling discussing what we already know and writing questions that we want to find out about.

Year 4

This week we learned all about the water cycle and how we form part of it. We learned that the sun powers the entire water cycle and that the process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation happens all around us. We also explored the idea of what the consequences would be if one of the parts of the water cycle went missing or was affected. We looked at why different geographical areas around the world have more or less precipitation than other parts of the world and also discussed what would happen if the climate would change in a specific region.

Year 5

The long weekend to celebrate International Women’s Day was much appreciated by everyone in our class and has helped us at the beginning of what has been once again, a busy and fun-filled week. The children have been working very hard on using their multiplication and times table facts to work on inverse operations and develop their written methods for multiplication and short division. In English we have been comparing and contrasting different types of dance as well as considering how questions differ and how best to use different types of questions in order to illicit important information to use in our writing. For Science the children are considering Life Cycles of animals and plants. Although we have not grown a plant from seed the children have been able to take care of a spring flowering plant at an early stage and observe its cycle over the past week and what a change they have seen. The classroom smells delicious!

Year 6

Year 6 has been very busy this week! We have been learning about how to create and read line graphs in Maths, which is tricky for us, we have been quite busy in English writing our own Fairy Tales! We have been looking at future careers in PSHE and we had an amazing science lesson learning about how light travels, how we see colours and learned some amazing facts about Speed of Light and how Black Holes prevent us from seeing light.
