Year 3

The first week back after the half term holiday has seen us move upstairs with the rest of Key Stage 2. Although we are still setting up, the students have really settled into the new room enjoying added space for working. In English we have focused on World Book Day work including analyzing different texts and writing short book reviews. In Maths we have looked at the different concepts we are going to learn this half term, and recognizing what we might be able to do already. In Science we have finished our Light and Shadows unit by conducting an investigation into determining what makes shadows large or small. In Topic we have looked at the new unit Recycling discussing what we already know and writing questions that we want to find out about.

Year 4

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

In Year 4 we learned all about our favourite authors, and we got to dress up as our favourite book character! We also tried our hand at reading different styles of writing to see if we could identify some of the features we have learned about this year.

We also learned about International Women’s day and why we celebrate this day on the 8th of March. And as a class we say, “Happy women’s day to all the women in our lives!”

Year 5

Our first week back after the mid-term holiday has been a busy one. In English we have started a new unit of work called the ‘Museum of Fun’. Our writing and reading connected with this unit will be non-fictional so we will still be developing our comprehension and inference skills using factual information and text. Following on with this, the children have been greatly involved in making preparations for World Book Day illustrating their own book covers and decorating the classroom door as a tribute to the first novel we read as a class in the Autumn term, Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. The children have very much enjoyed being dressed as their favourite book character today making a pleasant end to a busy week.

Year 6

Year 6 has been quite busy on our first week back from the break. We have been working hard on preparing for Book Day, settling in to our new classroom and learning new rules and getting our own devices up and running in the classroom. We are also starting to really work hard on preparing for the upcoming musical on April 2nd and 3rd. It has been very busy but a great week in Year 6!
